stage kit question

hey i was looking at the stage kits on cobalt addiction.com, i was considering getting the stage 4 but then was thinking of just saving up and doing the stage6.

Or maybe even just the gm stage2....

but i heard that the gm stage2 kit is only for ss/sc....
is that true or can i get it on my 2.2?
same for the stage6 cobalt addiction?
i really want to get one, seems like an affordable way to add a decent amount of power!

Where are you going to put a smaller supercharger pully on a N/A car? There is no stage kits for base balts you just have to put stuff together yourself. Exhaust, intake, etc......Its good to ask ?'s tho, they will get answered on here, one way or another.

T-Dawg you have to put intake, exhaust etc... together on SS/SC's too. The stage kits are simply a computer reflash, new belt, new pulley, and larger injectors.

ok cool, but would everything else should work from a "kit" right, just skip the pulley since i obviuosly dont have a supercharger? like just using spark plugs, belt, injecters etc?
if so i would probably just buy that stuff on my own.
sorry thanks for the help i just dont know that much yet!

short answer?? you could. Realistic answer? no.

before you take the time to start modding your car, I would learn a little bit about it first. because you're looking at products for the supercharged cobalt that will not work on a base model.

You wouldnt need higher flowing injectors and 1 or 2 step cooler plugs for an n/a car with little to no mods

An exhaust and intake are not near enough to need new injectors. Take D4u2sot's advice and read up a bit on cars and tuning before buying.

Here I come to save the day!

Okay, okay...

This is one of the most often misunderstood words in the tuning world

"Stage"

It's a general term that people often take to be specific. Stage kits are made by all kinds of different companies, for all kinds of different cars. They are all different from one company to another. For instance, the GMPP stage 2 kit for the LSJ engine is completely different from the Intense stage 2 kit. A Hahn Race Craft stage 2 turbo for the L61 engine (when they actually make it) is a completely different beast that NOTHING to do with other two.

So, now lets gets specific. As an Ecotec 2.2L engine owner, you have an "L61". That's the engine code. The supercharged 2.0L is the "LSJ" and the 2.4LVVT is the "LE5". Its easier to refer to them that way because they remain the same across different car models. For instance, the Cobalt, HHR, and the Malibu, along with a lot of non-Chevy models, all have L61 engines standard.

The current Cobalt "Stage kits" refer to the LSJ engine only. Should the turbo market finally start producing stuff for the L61, they will also have different stages.

A "stage" is nothing more then an upgrade level. A "stage" one turbo USUALLY means about 4 PSI of boost with no intercooler. A stage 2 is usually about 8 PSI with an intercooler. Higher stages usually mean a bigger turbo and more PSI.

Would SS stage injectors fit the 2.2 like if you found them alone? Or would it just be smarter/easer to get 2.2 upgraded injectors if they make them? Im new to the whole EFI deal ive always worked on carbed cars.

No matter what you DO NOT need to upgrade your injectors. Thats still far down the line. I'm sure their are injectors that would work. But theres also a harness adapter that i believe ZZP offers so you can upgrade.

I wish we had a sticky telling all 2.2 owners they DO NOT need to upgrade their injectors for at least another 7 or 8 months or whenever tuning/turbo comes out.

FDNY thats mean...stay away from cars

its ok guys..we all had a point where we didnt know much about cars...hell when i got my first car, my girlfriend wanted my car to have 'that sound' you know, the ones those civics have? so i went out and bought one of the canister mufflers. well, my car was a dodge stealth, that had the muffler with the dual exit(the 2 tips on one muffler) and so i was like...i cant put this on, this car has 2 pipes!! lol. i thought the canister mufflers were just a tip. so i went and got my money back
