Suspension Recommendations?

Hello all! So the shocks on my car are pretty noisy now and I think its time I replace them. Does anyone know where I should look and what brands would they recommend for new struts? I wouldn't mind lowering my car in the process, but I'm looking to spend <1000 for a kit if at all possible (if it can't be helped well let's hope my tax return will be enough to cover it). Also, it would be nice to know if others prefer coil-overs or separate springs and struts or what you all think. Thanks!

Cobalt - Ion - Struts, Shocks and Components

the top one comes with YYZ springs which wont lower a bunch but will give you better handling.

or you could get something like this which has adjustable heights

I'm looking at the adjustable ones right now cause it would be nice to adjust them a little lower. Is there any drop at all with the top YYZ ones? Anything different than the stock shocks would be the best.

there is drop with the yyz..... like 1.5 inches up front i think. backs a hair less.

konis and yyz is the best for comfort and handling. no coilovers provide good handling for these cars unless you spend huge dollars and none ride good

Gotcha, well thanks for the input! I wouldn't want to spend over a grand on coil overs if they don't ride good. I was looking at the K Sport coil overs on zzp but they're a little spendy.

Is it possible to buy a peripheral pair of lowering springs and put those on the YYZ struts without putting to much stress on the struts?

Get the top ones. They are likely your best option for your budget.

YYZ V3 springs (I spent more than most coilovers on this suspension to get the best handling you can on a cobalt).

Looks nice dude. I hope mine will drop at least a little bit with the FE5 struts and the YYZ v3 springs. I'm thinking of ordering the kit on CED that was posted earlier in this forum.

Overall Koni's with powell's springs are the best possible way to go for handling. Even FE5 shocks, struts, and springs will drop a basemodel a little bit so yea you are gonna get a drop.

Yours will drop the same as mine, I can post a pic when I had YYZ springs with the stock steel wheels.

That's a decent drop then for the price of those YYZ springs and FE5 struts, I got 16inch rims so it might fill in the space better than the way it does now with the stock suspension. They're so blown now so I'm willing to try the FE5 shock kit on CED even if it doesn't drop as low as coil overs do.

Get FE5 Control arms, Moog sway bar endlinks and Powell control arm bushings and you will have an unbelievably good handling cobalt.

Those are all parts that I can change progressively right? I don't think I'll be able to afford them all at once unless I save up for a few months. Unless those parts aren't to costly, I haven't looked it up yet.

Also I have a base model 2006 Cobalt LS, but I'm assuming those parts are universal for all Cobalts?

Sweet, thanks a lot for the info! This project is well past its due, so I'll probably change the shocks/struts this month, then do the rest later on. I won't really be able to play hard until May or June anyways since it's still pretty snowy here.
