Swapping 2.2 for 2.4 Questions

I want to swap my 2.2L intake manifold for a 2.4 and was curious about the swap whether it involves a lot of other parts or if it affects any other parts.

thanks

That all depends, are you getting the CED kit? Piecing it together? You cant buy the 2.4lmani and nothing else. You need a hose solution, and if you are keeping the 2.2l Throttlebody you need a spacer place for mounting. If your not experienced like I was when I did this, leave your self a few hours to do it

if he is (i believe) 07+ then no plate is needed
if you go to your local auto parts store and get 1/2" vacuum line you can make your own hose
install is pretty easy except pulling the old mani out as you have to rotate and kinda push and pull on the bracket for the oil dipstick. Do yourself a favor also, the connection for the break booster on the intake mani SUCKS and will most likely come loose causign a vac leak and idle problems, so replace it with a worm drive clamp/ hose clamp...stays MUCH better.
If you have an 05 or an 06 and are not buying the kit and need the adapter plate, PM me, I still have the template from when i made one for a buddy, I make them out of lexan with a gasket material under it...works great

you have to get tuned in order to use the 2.4 TB on a 2.2

correct, and not really needed until you do a bunch of bolt ons and can use the extra volume.
rem, you have to keep up the velocity of the air, and making the tb bigger may hinder that...

I have an air intake, pacesetter header, a cat back exhaust and no catalytic converter. So would you still reccommend just doing the 2.4 Intake manifold and keeping the 2.2 throttle body. In the near future want to do the trifecta tuning.

i would buy it, but wait till you have something else you want to tune for or are done modding for abit power wise and going to get the tune anyways...then install and tune

are you staying n/a or boost?

how far do you want to go?

cams are ALWAYS an option and can net you some hp and a sweet sound, you can do machine work to the head, etc

When going to a 2.4 can you use the same K&N air intake that I already have that's hooked up to my 2.2?

Yes...there really are no differences in the K&N intake...the one made for the 2.2 is one color and has hookup for the SAI...the one for the 2.4 is a different color and doesn't have SAI hookup. They are the same diameter and what not.

so quick question... i have a injen sri, pulstar plugs, 2.4 mani, zzp headers with downpipe and highflow magnaflow cat, and megan exhaust. would the 2.4l throttle body help my in my case with the trifecta tune of course? and if so what kinda gains would anyone estimate. Thirdly, where could i buy the 2.4 throttle body from anyways? i would just like to know that if i decided to install the 2.4 tb and then tune the whole thing if the gains would be worth the price of the throttle body. Thanks

That right there is a good question...I can only assume it would be worth it otherwise why would others do it? I can't imagine the gains being very big though...I would think it's more of a throttle response thing with minor gains.

^^Yeah, what are the gains with a 2.4 TB if you have the 2.4 manifold, intake and exhaust upgrades. Must be hard to tell because at the same time you have to get the tune.
I guess the better question is what is the size difference between a 2.2 TB and a 2.4 TB?

Ya that's what I've been wondering haha cause I don't want to spend like 300 on a new tb and then port it and only gain about 2 hp. It's the tune that would change everything up, but if throttle response increases... Well that's something not alot of people would pass up haha

I hope you don't spend $300 on a 2.4 tb unless you're getting one that's ported (even then, it's too expensive)...for a little more than that price, you should be able to find a TB and get tuned.

TB should be around $100-125 new shipped if you order online...that's approximate. I'm sure you can find a used one for half that shipped/plus shipping.

full bolt-ons will net you around 15whp maybe 25-30 with a tune
