Sythetic or Conventional
I was just wondering what kind of oils you guys were using. Im using Mobil One Sythetic in my Pursuit. I think the sythetic is better. Ive never had any issues with it, except the price lol
When I had my Vibe I switched to mobil 1 syn and the engine did not have to work as hard. Well Im comming up on 2500.00kms and im going to be swithching what benifits have you noticed so far?

the day i put the mobil one in i noticed that the motor almost seemed to rev up a bit quicker. My gas mileage when up too. almost 40mpg. I think it's in my head but it got rid of some valvetrain noise too.
Advantages
The industry recognizes the following benefits for synthetic motor oils:
* Improved viscosity at low temperatures. Mineral oils tend to include wax impurities which coagulate at lower temperatures. A typical 10W-30 oil remains liquid at -50 °C (-58 °F)
* Better high temperature performance. Synthetic oils have few low molecular weight hydrocarbons which evaporate at high temperatures.
* Higher purity
* Decreased oil consumption
* Reduced friction and engine wear
* Improved fuel consumption through better engine lubrication
* Resistance to oil sludge problems
* Crude oil doesn't have to be used for the production of the lubricants
* Some synthetic motor oil producers offer extended intervals between oil changes (extended drain intervals)
* Reduction of environmental impact (due to lower oil consumption)
Disadvantages
The primary disadvantage of synthetic oils is that they cost significantly more than mineral oils. Some manufacturers of synthetic oils, such as Amsoil and Mobil1, however offer extended drain intervals which allows for running the oil by over 7 times the length of conventional petroleum oils. This extended drain interval actually causes synthetics to be more cost effective over the course of 2 to 3 oil changes.
Detractors argue that the advantages of synthetic oils are only significant in high performance applications such as motor racing and aviation, road haulage, or for general lubrication in extreme environments.
Synthetic oils can cause problems with older seals which are prone to leakage. As long as the vehicle or equipment in question is in sound mechanical condition then using synthetic oils should not be an issue.

Good post DC...
I've used Mobil1 in my last two cars, my Cobalt is the third. Had it since it's first change @ 3k, and now I've got 7900 on her. I will always use synthetic, especially since I drive my cars kinda hard on occasion...

i know someone that used royal purple in their 1996 Acura Integra and had some problems with performance, like it wasn't being free'd up and was actualy working harder. he went back to quaker conventional and it improved the operation of the engine. BTW! it is highly recomended that once you use sythetic motor oil that you do not go back to conventional oil. It is very harmful for your seals.

really? then ive been told some lies! lol ive always been told that switching back isn't good because the conventinal and the sythetic don't mix and the seals dont' get proproly lubricated
There are a lot of myths out there about the subject, that is one of them.
The only one that I can tell you for sure is that it could be harmful to switch to synthetic on a high milage engine that wasn't properly maintained to start with. It could loosen sludge built up over time and clog oil passages.

How many miles do you all run, on a oil change with sythetic?
I have never used it before (this my first car that i would even think of running it in) so any more info would be very helpful.
