My first oil change I switched to Mobil 1 Full Synthetic. 1500 miles late I'm still in the 80s for %. Don't know how my pressure changed since my gauge still isn't hooked up. Just glad I got discounts with my dealership on parts because a $37 buck oil change is better than $50.

i use synthetic and go by the oil life monitor
if you can afford to have a brand new car, you can afford to use synthetic
if it costs twice as much, and lasts 3 times as long, its a no brainer

Exactly. I just threw my Sentra on the back burner going to have fun with this car with a few mods and maintenance it RIGHT.

i dunno, i think that a person could rock the steelies on the right colour car....

basically, ditch the stock tires and put on something mean.

have the steels paited gloss black. i mean effing shiney.

get a chrome beauty rim and some chrome lugnuts.

i think that it would have a cool retro look for short cash

i love my steelies but i am saving for rims. i was looking for some gloss black with a chrome lip. but some people have those on their cars already intown. so i was also looking at some bronze ones.

The only one that I can tell you for sure is that it could be harmful to switch to synthetic on a high milage engine that wasn't properly maintained to start with. It could loosen sludge built up over time and clog oil passages.
Not only that, but older seals that may have worn down, but have sludge assisting them in staying sealed, could loosen up once synthetic is put it. I've seen several instances where cars that have never leaked in their lives, started leaving little spots on the ground when they switched to synthetic.

But on a new car, as noted before, it should be a no-brainer. Buying synthetic is like buying in bulk. Think of it as buying 2-3 oil changes at once, and getting a better product while you're at it.

I'm assuming with a 1/4mile time of 15.8 you are a 4 door 5 speed?

If you believe in changing your oil every 3K, as I do, then synthetic is a waste of money. If you're willing to change at longer intervals, then it isn't. But here's a thought: synthetic oils last 6K or better. Your oil filter doesn't.

I use dino oil in my cobalt because GM doesn't recommend synthetic for my engine. (Not that I can't use it... I just don't bother) However, I do use Castrol Synthetic-blend in my Mustang jst because the dude before used that oil. I didn't want to switch oil types. I go 5k between changes on my Mustang and I change the oil in the Cobalt whenever the DIC tells me to.

how offten do you change your oil? i know conventional is 3-5k (miles) and i'm try to get a feel for how long you can run sythetic (never have before)..

i don't fully trust the DIC oil life %.. i just can't see going 8k or more on a conventional oil change (i changed it at 4k and it was not even under 50% oil life)

BTW mixing syn. and conventional can sometimes cause damage, my friend grabbed the wrong wuart and add some synthetic to his engine(he had a small leak, he didnt do the complete change) when he tried to un the car, it overheated. He came to find out the oils didnt mix at all and made a Jell-O type substanc, and the engine was dead because of it

I still change my oil ever 5000km (2600 miles)

I check my oil levels a regular basis. I know I could leave it in longer but i always keep and eye out for when syntec is on sale and buy enough for a few oil changes so it keeps the costs down.

There is an old moto "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" or something like that.

I let mine drain for 20 minutes to get as much of the old oil out as I could.
