Aight I just bought an '06 Cobalt LS, base 5-speed, wing, cruise. I ordered an Injen Intake from the homies at Gravana. I just got done breaking my car in so My friend that I work with owns a stock crx, greddy exhaust, intake, and wanted to race, finally. I just got out of my aveo for the cobalt mainly for the performance aspect. So i raced him at a 40 mph roll on, slapped it in second and walked away while picking my nose. We did this twice, i jumped the first time, he did the second time. So now my goal is for next summer, is to beat my other friend with a B16 swapped del sol, (15.2 second qt). I'm looking at doing a nitrous kit setup, becasue of the cost and ease of installation. But I am weary of injecting chemicals into my motor. I am only considering a wet kit at about a 75 shot. Figure it could get me mid 14's. Im basing this off of my friend with an auto sunfire ecotec that went from 16.5 all the way to 14.9 with a 75 shot. I wanted to get a gm supercharger next summer but not really feelin it. Im not all about the forced induction. I want to go N/A mainly with some juice.
Soooooooo, what are some real gains I can get here, parts, links, etc. I was looking at Patriot perfromance head/cam package, but heard of some failures at that.
I also want to know if anyone has had the new '06 ECU problems with fuel mapping and the such. i guess the new ECU's are EXTREMELY smart at knowing what your doing. I was told that if teh ecu see's more fuel, it shuts down. So im afraid of the nirtous kit richining too much and showing rich at the oxygen sensor then beign screwed.
You guys tell me what to do. Im willing to spend but dont kill me, Im still in college and making the payments.

 

75 will get you a lot better than 14.9, in fact a 50 shot with bolt-ons will get you around 14.5.
- NX kit, thats my preference.
- corsa exhaust, custom might be cheaper but may not give as nice gains
- pacesetter ceramic coated header, wrap it too

Goin' all motor is a thing guys on this site are not into I have gathered... its a fun way to go... yeah you won't be as fast but you have less to worry about! Go with NX kits (they do work well), and then do everything possible to it! There is quite abit out there for the ECOtec, you just gotta look! Have fun and Welcome to the site!

 

The only replacenment for displacement is Boost!

 

i would stay away from n20 and just boost with a supercharger, the gm kit may not be all that expenisve and alot more reliable and fun

 

gm kit is a waste of money, in my opinion.
n2o is great if you can actually manage to follow the instructions on the install. this is clearly someone who has never used the stuff. just stay under 75 shot on stock internals.

I bought that header and am wondering what you mean?

 

he means wrap it in heat sheilding fabric. It keeps the heat in and doesn't cause as much heatsoak in the components around the exhaust.
