Throttle Body Upgrade

Recently I have been debating upgrading to a SMS Big Bore Throttle body, but is it really worth it? Also, what's up with the refundable core charge? Could someone explain that bit to me...I'm a little bit slow.....lol

they want your stockie in return to bore it out. if you take one of theirs without sending your for them to bore, it depletes their inventory and they'd have to buy TB's at a cost to them. they charge a "core charge" in case you don't send yours so they can get a new one.

I would avoid this type of modification. The Cobalt has a very electronic fuel system. The TB valve is controlled via servo, not cable. And the fuel maps in the ECU are based on the stock bore size. If you open it up, you will get more air, but you will not get more fuel delivery per throttle position. This will result in a lean condition, and you will probably be staring at a CEL forever.

or at least be starign at it until we get a nice aftermarket ecu to tune it for the upgrade right?

also on a side note since you are gonna be turbo'ed what are you using for engine and fuel management?

About the only thing you are right about is the fact that the TB is electrically driven and that you will get a bit more airflow. Fuel delivery, however, is controled by a lot more factors than simply TB position.

I have the Satrun Motorsports throttle body for my SSSC. You get a small amount throttle response out of installing it. It's kind of expensive for what it is. You could easily goto work on your own TB with a dremel tool and get the same results without spending as much money. No CEL problems resulted from installing it.

If you ask ExHondaMan I think he would agree with me.

Hahn has developed a Port Fueler system specifically for the Cobalt and its touchy little fuel system. The idea is the stock unit is allowed to continue operating normally, and then the Hahn Port Fueler takes care of the extra injector set and monitors the O2 sensor.
