ok when i hit my breaks i get a storng vibration that rattles my stearing wheel. and anyone in the car can feel it any ideas????

 

rotos are warped take it back to get warranty work done

you should upgrade to slotted/crossed drilled rotos

 

You can get your stock ones shaved; thats what I did to mine when they warped. I think you can only do that several times though.

i get vibrations breaking through hard corners or breaking hard

 

only sometimes. usaly around 50 mph

 

I've spent considerable sums trying to cure (and keep cured) warped rotor shake outa my SS. Yes, your problem is definitely warped rotors. I didn't have any luck with the GMPP rotors, but the Powerslot rotors I replaced them with, and EBC Redstuff pads, seem to have finally cured the problem.

 

its so annoying, i got rid of it for a lil bit when i changed my rims out for the spring but now its back and my rims are as tight as they can be and since ive been driving faster ive noticed the freaking vibration is back even worse guess its time to change the rotors

 

I have an LS and I had this problem when the shop put my 17inch wheels on there. I took it to the dealership and he said that they put the rims on there too tight and it should have been hand torqued. So therefore the dealership was saying if you put the rims on there too tight it will warp the rotors.

 

I had this problem too...but i havnt had it checked out...cause my warrenty is out and im to cheap to upgrade...and they do sell rotors in pairs...i have drums on the rear and just need two...

i have this same problem, it happened right after i put my rims on. was going to take it in to have them look at it but didn't know if they would blame me cause of the rims. i am still under warranty
i just bough ceramic pads cause my car won't stop for ****!
haven't put them on yet i'm probably going to do it today.

 

I know some cars are majorly affected by tire pressure and when you get low tire pressure it'll do that, try topping of your tires.. that may help and it's alot cheaper than replacing everything. my moms car has that trouble but her breaks are fine.. however if it is just your tire pressure and you don't take care of it it can screw up your breaks over time.

This is still an open issue for me. If you are ALSO getting a pulse in the brake pedal, then it is in fact a rotor. If your pedal is fine and it's just your steering wheel, try doing a rotation first and see what happens. If the vibration remains afterward, then it is still your brakes.

 

well considering that there are now more than four ppl saying their wheels vibrate when braking and each of them had it occur right after putting new rims on i'm going to go with it not being the air pressure.
i did some research on the red/green stuff pads and here is a good site.

apparently they help to recondition rotors and are a high performance semi-mettalic pad.
unforunately i already bought new pads, but seeing as i have not put them on yet im going to try and return them and buy some red stuff pads

hey have you recently put on aftermarket wheels?
because for me and several other ppl that is when the problem started to occur
my car is brand new as of december and this problem is very weird

 

No. I am on stock 16".

 

i had it before i had the rims on, so i thoght my old tires were just off balance cuz it was smooth when i put my new rims on but now it vibrates which is kinda annoying and i kno my rims arent bent cuz i checked them the other day. i noticed the vibrating is alot worse when i go down hill. hmm imma just changed out the brakes

 

int he pics tho rotors had 5 lug holes... if he has an ls its 4 lug

 

My car does it too. Don't notice it as much with the stock wheels on but its there. I've had 2 sets of rims on it and its more noticeable with them both, more so the older set then the new ones, however, the older set had a rim or 2 that got bent anyways.

I'm waiting on my new pads and rotors, I'll see if thats the fix. Hopefully it is. It would definatly make my life easier haha.

And halfcent, how many lbs are you torquing your lugs to. I've been using 80 lbs.....Any other suggestions?

 

It's not the rotors at all they thought that with me. There is actually clips I don't know where im guessing on the studs that you're supposed to remove when replacing with aftermarket rims. My local chevy removed them for free.

They appareantly have this problem a lot especially with Silverados But they re did my rotors for free So I can't complain.

 

if your brakes are pulsating when braking then you need to turn or replace the rotors. if you are getting a vibration while driving down the road after installing new wheels i would say you prolly just need to ballance the tires/ wheels. if you have already done that i would recomend finding a place that offers road force ballancing. It is by far the best way to do it. the machine can tell you if your wheel is out of round, or maybe you have a defected tire. the wheel should not cause a vibration while stoping though.
