What basic mods are worth the money?

Hi im new to the forms, ive been reading around on the different upgrades for the 2.2 and am trying to figure out what to start with. So far i only have a K&N typhoon system. Im looking into buying the 2.4 manifold swap next, then shorty headers and a catback exhaust. Also is there a way to stop the jumpy rpms on start up and stopping at lights, or is it normal in our cars? Any input on the best ways to go is greatly appreciated.

jumping rpms sounds like a vacuum leak somewhere

interms of mods

-intake
-2.4 manifold
-either aftermarket header or even the ss one in your case of being a 2006
-catback exhaust

these alone depending if you auto or stick . if your stick you should see upwards of 140-160whp from dynos but every balt is different

Yeah the jumping stops after about 15 secs on start up, after i hit a full stop it will drop low then balance back up. As for the turbo reply, i was considering doing it but it would take me too long to save up for it. Also would the ss headers be better then going with an aftermarket?

Is your car automatic? It may be tranny surge, common thing with gm cars since, i dunno... the dawn of time... Mostly happens when the ac is on. I had someone explain that my cavalier did it because of the ac compressor clutches slipping, yada yada... Short translation, dont use ac...

But for simplicity and bang for the buck. Find a decent used intake, should cost $100-$125 and buy a good filter for it (k&n $45 at autozone). You'll love the sound, you'll feel an extra little bit of pull you can even do a dance if you'd like...

lol @ evilmonkey, im already dancin, have a k&n typhoon on it. But my cars not auto, also i dont use my ac so its not that either, ive seen other ppl say they have the same problem. Also anyone have experience with the 2.4 manifold swap? is there any noticable difference or even worth the money?

2.2s are restricted........open it up

things that dont need a tune: 2.4 mani swap, header, downpipe, exhaust

things that need a tune: 2.4 throttle body swap

those are basic "bolt-on" mods

i would also get a TTR rear sway bar, front strut bar, and do springs....

nitrous is a nice add on ) but in all seriousness from what I was told, go,Intake,2.4 mani, headers with your cat back and if your satisfied get a tune and add a 75 shot(you'll be dancing all day)

i wouldnt recomend nitrous save your money go turbod.. ive ran a 100 shot on my motor just fine i just wouldnt recomend it.. you cant run the 2.4tb witout a tune and you dont really need a tune to run nitrous just get a wet kit..

Nitrous might be all the power he's looking for, and much cheaper than turbo.

To the OP: If you're looking for ***** to the wall power, then either buy another car or prepare to spend a lot.

If you have the money get the vibrant long tube header(downpipe delete) as long as you dont have to worry bout emissions bullshit.

Go with the 2.5" Magnaflow Stainless Steel Cat Back exhaust.

your idling issues are caused by a dirty throttle body. get some degreaser or carb cleaner, remove the throttle body, and clean it. Your problem will go away
