cold air seems to equal more HP, TQ in the upper rpm's, short ram seems to add throttle response, at least that is the word on here...I don't have experience personally as I have the ss/sc but I do frequent the 2.2 and 2.4 forums to see what the rescals are coming up with...gotta keep em in check ya know, hehe, eveytime they get something I gotta go get something, I'm gonna have to get real serious when you guys get turbos...hope that helps...

i have a short ram and the throttle response is considerably better......and it still adds high rpm power too

If you get the injen, you get both for the same price. SO, if you're not happy with short ram, you can install the CAI.

Personally, I need all the HP/TQ I can get with my LS sedan, so I chose the CAI (more hp/tq)

But 05YellowSS is right.

CAI more HP/TQ
Shorty faster throttle response (very noticable)

bro, you're in miami... as hot and humid as it is there, a short ram wouldn't help much. in fact any power you make would prolly be lost due to crappy hot muggy air.

the issue with cold air would be excessive rain messingup the filter.

I think I saw a cold air extention for the stock box on here someplace called the XTC or something. dunno.

Get the injen you have the best of both then, I keep mine at short ram of torque and throttle response.

if you want a CAI, get the AEM with the bypass valve - that way, if any water gets in your CAI, it wont cause hydrolock!!!

if you want SRI, get anything you want! - better throttle response and low rpm gains

--------------

if you live in miami it sorta sucks for you because its hot and it rains, two very big negatives for intakes lol

I'm sure this has been asked before, but seriously... how much horsepower can we REALLY gain with an intake on a 2.2? 3-5 HP MAYBE?

I got the Injen for that exact same reason (and I got a great deal from turbo tech racing) I have only the short ram on now ,but I may put the rest on now that summer is here. I only had a 1/2 hr to waste when I did it.

if you're lucky. car designers are not stupid, if they could make huge power gains by an intake tubing change, they'd do it. the only place an intake kit is going to REALLY help is if you're running at high RPM often in which case it's possible that the stock intake may be restricting. it seems to me that a lot of people that race cars just toss in a high flow filter and call it a day.

reasons a stock box is better.

it's cheaper

it's quieter (if you like that)

won't suck up dirt and water as often

plastic doesn't heat soak

I have the Injen for my 2.2L; installed it as a CAI.

joeworkstoohard seems to be pleased with every auto manufacturer's cars as they come off the line yielding near maximum power!!

The auto manufacturers may squeeze a reasonable amount of possible potential out of high performance cars at the plant b/c that they are being sold for POWER (SS's, Z06's, etc.) On lower level or base model cars; price, noise and fuel economy all add up to a decrease in the cars potential. They don't spend any extra money on performance parts, they want to make it quiet and they want to achieve the best MPG possible . . . all of these are important in sellilng the cars on the lower end of the power and $$$$ spectrum.

the colder the air the better the combustion in the chamber...which results in a couple more hp/tq at the max

IMO $200+ for 2 HP isn't really worth it. Especially since I don't plan on racing my car anyway...

I had K&N drop-ins on my trucks; I'll prolly do the same w/the Cobalt.
