I mean, it's not a bad car really. Never once have I ever been embarassed to be in a balt.

hey phil, this thread was made for numbers about a future set up I had in mind. Nobody is trying to argue with you over the fact that V8's are better then 4 cylinders. It's all a matter of personal prefrence. Obviously this isn't the most suitable place to preach about small or big blocks and such. That would be more suited for a forum that discusses V8's. But to add on keep in mind you have all that power but how much weight are you lugging. I know my cobalt is i think 2800 lbs somewhere around and it has a little bit faster 1/4 mile then my 89 caprice. (yeah 305 isnt that big but still the cars weight was 3750 lbs lol)

but this is not what I got on here for so just leave it alone. The only point I was trying to get at here is that in my opinion I cant see why ppl put alot of money in to an everyday driver, thats all man so just chill out alil

and just for the record it pushed out 841hp (motor dyno) with no power adders, well other then the 112 octane. and weighted in a little over 3300 lbs

^ well if you want to know the numbers then there are many many threads out there that have asked the same thing so just do a little researching. and you should find your answer, and good luck with your build
ok ... one learn english.. two.. take mommy and daddy's car out of this thread... three whats it run on 93 octane? and two is it even street legal... if not then who cares we're not talking about drag cars.. we're talking about DD street cars

i'm not sure why you had to bring the v8 argument in here anyway

No more stupid arguing guys. I'll just go ahead and end this discussion right here.

NA Stock V8 > NA Stock 4 banger.
FI 4 banger >= NA V8
FI V8 = ownage of pretty much everything.

Everyone happy?

you have me satisfied but would make me happy if you would share your knowledge on if its a good idea to tune a car to accept 93 octane, will their be a ping? will the car function better? Are their any real gains? answer those and I can go to sleep happy lol

Yeah sure you can tune it for 93, but don't do it until you got some more bolt ons, or it's just gonna be a waste.

Tune is usually the last thing you do.

You GOTTA get a transmission tune on these automatics, else you'll be running 15's.
I ran 14.6 with a stock pcm calibration and an 85 wet shot

Tune is always the last step. Get everything you want put on, including the nitrous, and then a tune for the n20/93.

you will never get any performance gains simply from switching to a higher octane, unless you were running too low of an octane before. Octane is nothing more than a fuel's resistance to detonation. runnin 93 octane in a stock 2.2 cobalt will NOT improve the power. it will however lower your mpg's, and lighten your wallet.

in other words, it's completely pointless to put 93 in your stock 2.2, or even your bolted 2.2. only time to go up in octane is if you're getting knock, or are adding f/i or nitrous and upping the timing.

this is correct. if anything, the resistance to combustion will retard peak pressures by a couple degrees, which is what you do when you retard ignition timing. Basically, youll lose HP

93 or better is a must for nitrous oxide. you need all the detonation resistance you can get.
