Angry why is my 2.2 so slow

i have an 07 cobalt LT coupe with automatic transmission. my mods are a K&N intake with a magnaflow exhaust (its not cat back) and i also have the resinator cut out. I went down to cecil county dragstrip and when i went to see how fast it was it only did at best without gutting my seats out a 17.11 with a .428 reaction time. now i know these are faster then that but i dont know why mine is soo much slower then everyone else. I have california emmisions if that means anything plus when i went down i didnt have my stock rims on either i had the 17" ss rims with the pirellis P4 season tires. please someone help me figure out what will make me faster

Read the bold text, then realize that 2.2's are NOT FAST!!

Yeah but he should be better then that. A 2.2 auto should run about 16 flat stock.

Well... Whats your elevation? That plays a lot on your times. Are you launching your car properly on the auto? Read the HOW TO on launching an Automatic by Halfcent. I bet that will help your times. Also, if you want a little more kick, throw on a 50 or 75 shot. Its cheap...

get new piping to open the exhaust

when launching hold the brake all the way and rev up the engine (in drive) to about 1500-2000 rpms and then when green floor it and release brake

What is your 60' time? Reaction time doesnt really matter unless its bracket racing.

remember... some cars are just faster than others.... but there shouldn't be that much of a difference

BryanK.... the 2.2's may not be the fastest, but be careful about downtalking automatics. A well tuned automatic with something like the shiftplus will most likely school a manual transmission. Why? Because it is a computer making the shift EVERYTIME, and tuned it will be an instant shift. most any guy on here will tell you that.

your not taking into account the temperature, when you went down it was really hot out, that DRAMATICALLY affects your power.
run again in the fall and see how much better you do.
i notice it a lot with mine as well, its nice to have a dashhawk then you can see what kind of intake temperatures your looking at and realize, DAMN i'm losing a LOT of power

the 17" rims are quite a bit heavier than the 15" and 16" rims. that and the california emissions might be sapping some power. lower emissions means either more exhaust restriction or less fuel / air being put into the engine.
another automatic trans racing tip is launch like the above people said, and use the lower gear selection. launching in "L" or 1st gear will disable traction control. then after it shifts out of first gear, move it to 3rd or "I". The shifts are firmer when its not in overdrive.

ok when i raced the LS my reaction time was .489, 60'- 2.571, 1/8- 11.114@64.82, 1/4- 17.111@81.41. temp was 56 it says even though it felt hotter then that, relative humidity 67 and absolute barometric pressure was 17.82

SAI has no affect on power. unless he is doing a run as he pulls out of the driveway in the AM it won't even be on.

I never thought about the 17's that extra little weight could be a difference.

you said you had all season tires on. Those are horrible for track times. Other than that put your automatic in low gear and shift up.

Search for "Launch Automatic"or browse the HOW TO section.

Nitrous kits are like $500. There is also a nitrous section with all the info you need =P

Im at work, not much time for links...

These are some assumptions about the LT3 since you dont have listed what its equiped with.

Reasons its slower than most 2.2's on here.

You have an LT3 witch is loaded up with all the electrics. = weight

Leather optional = heavier = weight

Optional Side airbags = more weight

Optional 7 Speaker sound system + Sub = More weight

Sun Roof = ???

You have and automatic with California emissions.

Depending on those 17's you have they may be playing a serious weight factor.

Depending on tire width and tire pressure, increased rolling resistance.

And lauching it isnt quite as simple as stomp it and go.

Since you do live in California

1/4 mile times vary greatly depending on outside temperature as well. If you went on a hot day vs a cool afternoon/night, there would be a difference.

Also learn how to launch and that should help better if you're spinning or hopping.

i dont have a sun roof, or leather or side air bags, but i do have the pioneer system and the 17's are the stock ss rims with stock tires
