Unless it is a VW oem performance product (think GMPP) You are correct, easiest way of realizing that is to check ebay for performance chips for cobalts, notice they rarely show a pic and if they do it is just a resistor, then check it for the V-dub of your choice and they do the same crap.

Idk, because they themself dont understand the concept of a "chip" or because they are actually factory/aftermarket ecu upgrades similar to the mopar stage upgrade ecu's in srt4's.

Because VW's are chipped.

VW tuners(like APR, etc.) actually install CHIPS into the ECM. Its not something like the old GM EPROMS that were plug and play in your driveway. Modern VW "chips" are soldered into the ECM. If you were to disassembled a "chipped" GTI it would be visually apparent

its all good man. Im all seriousness, you want to go for an CAI (cold air intake) and/or a cat-back exhaust. It will cost you 3-6 hundred to get both

Considering you have a 2.2 LAP -- this engine is new to the aftermarket vendors so there probably isn't much in the way of a "tune" for your engine.

If money isn't a problem, start with the basics, cat-back exhaust, intake, and maybe an LSJ/Ext-honed manifold -- these will free up horsepower. That way you'll be ready for a tune or module when something becomes available.

Research what's available for your car:

what is the best intake for my car. and also will an 05 and up intake fit on my 09 LAP?

im also doing 2.5" piping from mandrel exhaust systems.com and then buying a DC sports muffler. Will that sound good and give me more power?

i'm not sure wat intake will fit but i'm sure there will be one to fit, as well the exhaust will be a good setup but i wouldn't get a DC sports muffler, get an ARK Performance exhaust, should fit you no problem and i PROMISE u will LOVE the sound.

Here is a good option for you, all u have to do is pick a good muffler and resonator, ask the exhaust shop what they think sounds good.

Send me the money, i'll give you a chip that is just as useful for half the price. You can even eat it, too.
