Odd Problem, Any Help Appreciated.
Alright guys I've done a little research before hand but I wanted to ask you your opinion on a small problem I've ran into on my car. The car in question is an 09 Sedan with right around 77K on it but recently at idle I've been smelling a raw fuel smell, not a normal burned fuel smell like exhaust. Also, it seems that if the car lies dormant for more than 8 or 9 hours its kind of harder to start. It's not that it doesn't start but it just takes an extra second or so to start at first. I've heard a couple things such as fuel filter and that there was a recall on the fuel pump assembly in the 07 and 08 o=cobalts but not in the 09. Weird issues, if you have any info or an idea of what it might be let me know. It's not so much a problem but its just mildly concerning for me to smell raw fuel at idle. lol

There was recently an update on the pump recall, I think '09's were mentioned. Regardless, look under the car at the tank, see if there are signs of a leak.
Sounds like a fuel pressure issue
Try cycling the key without going to the start position, go back to off, then try to start. Bet it fires right up.

if it is the pump it will eventually get worse. Mine got so bad it started throwing codes and going into limp mode !
it could be something else-- pop the hood and look for evidence of leaks. Do a fuel pressure leak down test.

wow, really? I am having this issue right now. If i go WOT the car limps and has a really hard time starting. I just chalked it up to E85, but now i wonder if the pump is dying and thats why i lost my last motor.

UPDATE: there is service bulletin that will drop for all 09 cobalts soon to replace the fuel pump module. I took mine in to get it done today and it was completely free! I'll update if the fuel smell come back, but as of now the smell is gone. Also test drove a 300C SRT8 while I was there, almost traded in the balt. lol
