Ok so what i want to know if there is a way to like reset timing and VVT on the the LAP. I took my head off almost a year ago and i had problems with my VVT and timing. I have weird valve train noise every once in a while and my car bogs really oddly. i dont think my timing is messed up because it runs fine before operating temp...

on all the guides im reading for taking off the cams and stuff they all ask to mark the VVT actuator and get tools to hold the cams gears in place.... but what if i wanted to "reset" timing. a better way to understand what im trying to accomplish is what if you need to replace a new gear and/or actuator, you wouldnt be able to mark anything so there has to be a way to install and retime the motor from scratch. anyone know this answer it would clear so much up for me, thank you!!!

 

there are timing marks on the actuartor/gears, needs to be tdc line up the crank with timing mark then make sure your exhaust gear is at roughly 10 o'clock and intake is at roughly 2 o'clock then line up the coloured links in chain, the holding tool is for torqing the gears/actuators to the cam which is 22ft/lbs plus 100 degrees and your supposed to use new bolts for actuators/gears

 

so if i wanted to, i could put my crank in the proper position then take of the gears and stuff without marking them put them back in the right place? from what i understand the actuators themselves spin too, thats what the problem was with my VVT the actuators werent reading the cams right or something

 

it would be in the same place when you take them off they only go on one way the have locating tabs, do you by chance have the dtc that were set? all it takes is for your timing to be off by one tooth to set a code

 

yea it was and i got it fixed in early spring

 

theres a bulletin for the actuator soleniod i had the syptoms of the bulletin but it only happend once, i think the bulletin says to replaced the soleniod thats acting up, when it happend to me my car ran like **** massive bogging and it threw a code can't recall it but my check engine light never came on

 

was it bogging when the car came to a stop perhaps? cuz i have the same problem, but the only code im throwing is a misfire p0300 or something like that

 

mine was when i was taking off from a stop, well if your timing is right maybe sumthing else wrong, does it mess up when your accelorating

 

only when in a higher gear, i think thats the tune though. maybe coils but idk, it only happens after coolant hits 160 degrees :/

 

maybe be detenation get hp tuned on a dyno

 

You can set timing like you would with any other car, using the timing marks on the gears and the colored links on the chain.

What you are getting sounds more like an acutator/sensor problem than an actual timing issue. I'd spend some time doing further diag of the VVT system first.

detention would most likely hurt something if its been going on for how long it has been. and it may be vvt but not 100% anyone know how to change VVT?

 

Change what? You'd have to figure out what part of it is giving you problems. Log the functions and see what changes when the car acts up.

If you can't diagnose it, take it to someone who can.

u sure its timed right they can be a little tricky and being one tooth off can cause funny things to happen and mostlikely will not throw a code

 

Vince is doing a really good job working with me and I am no longer bogging. Car is running a lot better and the valvetrain noise even disappeared. I had my timing checked out back in April so it should be all good.
