short ram vs. cold air

short ram- pros: easier install, cheaper, dont have to worry about water problems ( if u live somewhere where it rains all the time)
cons: less performance

CAI: pros: Better performance, more reliable.
cons: Have to worry about water and cleaning it much more, harder install.

what should i do? im looking for performance but hell i live in pittsburgh where it rains a lot!

you really dont need to worry about water even with a cold air. unless you plan on forging rivers like your on the Oregon Trail

I've seen those hydra shields do they make them for the stock airbox?

I have the intake piping for now going into the stock box with a K&N filter, and I'm kinda leary about trying the airbox mod cuz it seems like it would suck up alot of crap...

*sorry to threadjack

You'd have to be driving through a river for water to go all the way up to the stock airbox. At that point you'll have other things to worry about(Like you and your car floating away).

OP I would go with a SRI over an CAI based on what you posted. Performance wise they're both around the same.

Get the Injen and you can have your choice, it is both short ram and a full cold air intake Plus it is false info to state a CAI will suck up water, the only way you will have it suck up water, is if you drive through deep standing water; just "rain" will not get water into your engine.

Check out the vendor special section, we have a great price on them.

Oh ok gotcha... I just saw a recent post saying rain will not get into the motor so I'm good. I think I'm going to try that airbox mod tomorrow.

i was in many storms when ih ad my CAI, and i had no issues, the filter was dripping water, and othing happend, this occured in many occasions, you would have to submerge the intake and take in loads of water to lock ur engine up...drops alone is not enough
