Turbo Vs Supercharger/Procharger

I hear day to day differences and how ones better then the other at the local shop, i hear that turbos are so delicate and need fine tuning all the time. I also here Superchargers are easy installation and produce alot less horse power..

You guys give me the specs..

whats the best?

ok super cost less and is easier to install has low rpm power mild gains up to 220 on stock 2.2, turbo cost more and is alittle more difficult to install has high rpm power with turbo lag but turbo lag can be eliminated of tuned well and can produse alot more power 270 on stock 2.2, my opinion sdont bitch and complain if u think im wrong

and super u get the whine and turbo i get the psssshhh lol i would go with the turbo

when its all said and done..if you go supercharged, you will wish you would have put up the extra dough and went turbo.

It depends on what you're looking for.

If you're just wanting to up the power of the 2.2 without needing to upgrade the internals (You're fine with a mild power increase), then the supercharger is probably one of your better options. It is cheaper to piece together and doesn't have enough potential to blow your engine since the boost is limited. It is also more reliable.

If you're planning on doing a rebuild of the engine to strengthen the internal components and you want huge power, the turbocharger is the better choice. If you have the 2.4L LE5 engine (SS N/A), I'd go turbo since the components in this engine are more durable than the 2.2L L61.

I wouldn't bother with a procharger on a 4 cyl engine. It has been done on an Ion that I know of, but generally prochargers are best utilized on a V8.

Hey man maybe I can help a lil bit. Well I'm asked ppl da same question supercharger or turbo on my cobalt. I have an auto tranny so I'm goin 2 get a zzp bolt on supercharger and my reasons r that if u get a supercharger on an auto tranny is works better than a turbo because if u get a turbo on an auto tranny ur gonna get a lot of boost lag and another reason I'm gettin a supercharger is that u dnt need 2 upgrade ur pistons, camshafts and ect. Wit turbo ull need 2 spend a lot of money b4 u can turbo it cause if u dnt ull blow ur engine right away. So finally I say if u have an auto tranny go wit supercharger its cheaper and better but if u have a standard cobalt and have money 2 spend go wit turbo.

Just because you go with the supercharger kit, doesn't mean you wont have to work on your internals. If you slap on a few bolts ons and have an aggressive tune I bet you wont make it very long at all on stock internals. Also you would be fine on stock internals if you go turbo as long as you dont have many other mods, you dont run you car hard, and you keep the boost low. Its all about how hard you run you car. Turbo just has more potential than a supercharger.

how the hell do you upgrade the internals slowly? I think that would be the most horrible cost noneffective decision ever thought.

Maybe he means buy them slowly and let them pile up til he has them all? If he's planning it the way its worded out, that is a horrid idea lol

Well at least 3/4 of ur engine is in good shape. Did you only p&p cylinders 1 and 4 too since they're most known for failing?

Not that Garrett isn't a good company or anything, what has you set on them? Second of all, if you need to ask all these questions about turbo/super setups and quite obviously have no knowledge on this at all, you really shouldn't be planning a build at this point. You need to do some research and bone up on ur knowledge. And I mean months of research from all sources, not reading threads on here and thinkin you have it all figured out in a day or even a week. I'm not trying to be a dick, but ask any of the other gear heads on this site or that you know personally and I'll bet they agree with me. If you don't understand any of this forced induction stuff, I can almost guarantee you'll blow ur engine within a week.

hey .. my supercharger setup has put out better numbers then the M62 with less boost.. it also made me run a 14.3 at 103 with a 2.422 60' so it's actually a very good system. however that being said you can buy the zzp turbo setup for cheaper then a procharger setup.. the procharger is a good performer but i did it to be different and to have more power not to have the MOST power.. also something to keep in mind prochargers have the coolest intake temps and the least stress on the engine
