1/4 Mi Tested

A few weeks ago, I took my 2.4L with my mods to a DynoJet dyno and was dyno'd in the wrong gear (4th) and was a little heart-broken about the numbers. According to the pulls I did, I pushed 195 @ Wheels with 185 Torque @ Wheels.

My Mods:

ZZP 3" Inlet, 2.5" Outlet LSJ Downpipe (With High Flow Cat)
Custom 2.5" Mendrel bent exhaust back (1 90 degree bend @ axle)
Magnaflow Performance Muffler (11226) with the stock exhaust tip
Injen 3" Cold Air Intake
SSC Lowering Springs
John Powell "Street" Rear Sway bar
ZZP 1" Front Strut Tower Bar
Regapped Denso Platinum Series Spark plugs @ .038"
Brand New Camshaft Actuator Solenoids (Intake + Exhaust)
Standard Breather Filter on Valve Cover (Plugged port on Intake)
Factory Tune

My next door neighbor has a customized Dakota with a few performance mods and a little computer that tracks 1/4 Mi times and data from running the vehicle on the street, so I borrowed it and ran 3 runs on a back country road with no traffic / cops.

My best run was:

15.45 @ 89.6MPH
1000ft @ 9.8s @ 79.8MPH
0-60: 6.9s

I was curious for the guys that run track times on the weekends how these numbers stack up?

I don't have the money for a tune, I'm married with a kid. When I can justify spending a few hundred on a tune, then I will but right now its not even possible.

All I'm saying is that the tune will make a huge difference. Your not gonna see the potential out of the mods you've done till your car is modified for them.

A tune is the best bang for your buck. Without a tune you will not see any power increases. Your mods and times seem about right, its a 2.4 NA Cobalt its not going to break a 14.5

Your not happy with 195/185???? Sure you're probably going to read 10-20 lower on a mustang dyno but that's not to bad, what were you expecting? Your best friend now will be who ever can tune you. I would take it to the track and see what you can get there, I feel like most streets probably aren't going to be as good as tracks for getting meaningful times..

EDIT: slightly older dyno thread but here's some info on other 2.4L cobalts:

I looked at the 2.4 NA's with just bolt ons and I suppose I should be thankful I gained what I did from what I have on a factory tune.

Don't have the money for a tune but you have money for those mods? That's the stupidest thing I've heard in a while

BTW, you're not 1/4 mile tested. Using a little gadget does not equal what you will actually do at a track.

Go to the track and see what you actually run, with your dyno numbers you should be able to run a mid-low 14 second pass. Should make high 13's with a good tune and a good launch.

you have intake and exhaust...is there something i'm not seeing here as to why you should be disappointed in those numbers?

^ thats what i was thinking.

I have run my 2.4. with my K&N SRI and a Megan Cat Back, i ran a 14.94@93.2. your car should be faster than that. take it to the track and see what she puts down. its the only way to have legit numbers

most people prefer 3rd because of wheel speed if the car were to fall off. that and if i were a dyno i'd rather slow a car down from 105-115 rather than 140+

lol ya if i would of had my dyno pull done in 3rd my tire wouldnt of blown on the dyno but anyways, im pretty sure those are the highest numbers a NA 2.4 has put down so be happy and enjoy your extremely happy dyno. i have an 08 2.4 with K&N intake, ZZP midlength combo, and 2.5" catback no resonator with a magnaflow and i only put down 164whp. with a trifecta tune on the same dyno i put down 155whp. which is also why i went HPT lol.

Thats a healthy ass dyno man! Put down only 10 less hp/tq than my car did stock! You should be ECSTATIC over those numbers...

Run it at the track now and see if your MPH really shows that you're putting down that much power. You're hitting like 215-220hp at the crank btw...

Thanks. My next mod will be cams and a tune. Then Ill be prepping for the Turbo drop =)

I was disappointed a little because the drum we ran on was 18% heavier than the vehicle so he pulled my peak numbers and multiplied it by .18 to get my true numbers.

One of my buddies there was pretty shocked too... He runs an 07 SS/SC and I raced him 2 times and beat him both times (he blamed the tune) but since he has upgraded his **** and I can't touch him anymore.

Was fun poking fun at him about an NA whooping his SC ass.

I wish the guy would email the damn graph so I could post it on the Dyno results.
