171 or 173 or 175 lol

Why is it, that some places have the 2.4 at 173, this place says 171 and others have it at 175.

On the GM page, it says 173.

So who's the correct one

The horsepower figure stock. GM changed the system from 2006-2007, so they released new numbers. The HHR uses one figure, the cobalt has another. In reality, it doesn't matter.

Okay, shall I write it in crayon?
This Website gives the Cobalt SS 2.4 at 171 HP.
The GM website says 173 HP
Other websites stated 175 HP.

It's not much of a difference, but I just wanted to see which was the correct one.

It dosen't really matter... the only numbers you should really be interested in are WHP numbers gotten from a dyno... everything else is speculation.

haha I agree with this guy. I think GM would know best considering they DESIGNED the car, lol. In '06 the SS 2.4 was rated at 171 though, and '07's like mine are rated at 173, but in reality they are the exact same engine. They probally just gave it a more accurate rating for '07 (alot of cars under-rate their flywheel hp the first year or two until they get the kinks out and get it tuned to the factory spec they initially were looking for). Overall its just a ball park figure anyways, and whp is the only thing that matters when it comes to bragging rights.

They also under-rate the HP to keep insurance costs down.

Yeah, but the two HP difference isnt from that. That is from the new SAE standard. Even the Z06 changed HP after the revision of the SAE standards. The LSJ has not been updated, probably because they would have to claim it at 240hp.
