2.4 is dead.

According to Car & Driver this is the last year for the 2.4 engine as its done away with next year. The only engines that will be offered in the Cobalt will be the turbo charged 2.0 and a 2.2 that will be upgraded to VVT and rated at 155hp.

Do not shoot the messanger here folks mmkay.

Heh, the 2.2 only gets a 7 tick increase in peak BHP from VVT? Hope the powerband is a bit thicker overall, it'd be a shame to make that engine peaky just to squeak out an extra seven ponies up top.

Not too darn bad of an engine for the car it's in, but I'll take my 2.0 TYVM.

Didn't make sense to have it, seemed like the bastard child. It was like... well almost SS, but not quite. I bet they will just up the options on the 2.2

I never really understood their thought behind 3 models. The 2.4 is so close in stature to the 2.2L, should have upgraded the heads already.

The price difference between the SS and SS/SC wasn't too much different.

the LE5 was the best engine the cobalt line offered untill the LNF

2nd gen engines FTW, ive hardly ever heard of any problems with the LE5 unlike the LSJ which has countless problems.

its a shame its getting discountuned, it was such a great engine.

It was only listed as being droped for the Balt. Not sure with the others.

Its the emissions and gas mileage issue again from what it said. The 2.2 with VVT has lower emissions and better mileage. HP is not a concern in a point A to point B econo car it would seem where GM is concerned.

That makes sense... offer two models... if you want HP, you get the turbo. If you want point A to point B get a 2.2

then i am glad i got mine when i did. I think they should just get rid of the 2.2L i mean i can head high 29s low 30s (mpg) driving fast. the 2.2L is a waste IMO

WTF?! Where are you getting this from?????? Engine wise, the LSJ is a damn strong motor and I've heard of VERY few problems out of the engine itself.

do you read the 2.0L section. spontanous stalling, engine shutting off, hard vibrations and awkward sputerings and RPM fluxuations (SP) happen all the time. every LSJ i know personally has ran into some sort of problems.

Probably mainly due to the amount of modifications done to them...not necessarily the engine's problem. That's what she was trying to say. And I believe she reads the section, she does have one lol.

Well when you click on new posts...any post from any section comes up lol
I don't have a 2.4 either. Before I got mine I test drove one, was pleasantly surprised with the overall car. If they didn't have the ss/tc I probably would have gotten that, as I was also looking at a silverado lol but not with gas prices haha.

hmm... didn't think the malibu had this in it too.

that seems kinda odd that they wouldn't have discontinued the 2.2 then, seeing as how this is in quite a few other model lines. not only that, but mileage is around the same for the two motors isn't it? i average 29-30 within city and 33-35 in the highway

Weird. I've never run into an un-modded LSJ with problems.

It is a shame although the cobalt is one of the very few cars that offer three different engines. Also the aftermarket industry doesn't really support the 2.4 most of the mods are for the 2.2 or 2.0

Sorry, you want to keep non-2.4 owners out of your section why don't you request it get moved off the front page, general forum page, new post page, and hell while your at it why not just request the mods password protect it to keep the "outsiders" away.

We've known it was going for about six weeks. Old news.

LS/LT/G5/G5 GT now get the 2.2 LAP with VVT (155/150), and the only other motors for deltas is the LNF.
