2.4 needs mod suggestions/tips

I took my 06 2.4 to the 1/4 mile finally tonight. My times basically suck. The first time i ever went to a track it was an 1/8th mile so i improved alot over that experience.

My 4 best times were.

16.29 w/ 2.6 60ft and 87 trap

16.28 w/2.68 60 ft and 88.81 trap

16.24 w/2.5686 60 ft and 87.89 trap

16.13 w 2.51 60 ft and 85.58 trap.

MY RT's are mostly between .5 and .7 yet i still suck. I have k&n intake, CA v1 header, and custom 2.5" piping from the axel back to a borla muffler. and my car is 5 spd. My launches are a bit slow and i dont hop much i just spin like crazy.. What am i doing wrong thats keeping me out of the reasonable range? I have a set of tranny bushings/ xtc catless dp still to install (tomorrow), but i dont see the purpose if i cant even break 15s with wut i have. Im hoping the bushings will eliminate hop from when i actually launch at a higher rpm. Wut are most of u guys doing to get in the mid to low 15s with similar mods? i even took out all the crap in my trunk and lowered the tire pressure. One issue i know i have is shifting to 2nd. I notice that i lose a bit on that shift, wheras others seem to gain ground. I'm gonna dyno it next week to make sure that it's not an issue with the car and that it's all driver. it still only has 9400 miles.

Are you popping the clutch?? If so then you may have to ride the clutch alittle and roll on the throttle until you get the clutch all the way out..

Also.. if spin is your main issue you may want to consider some grippier tires.

Yes the stock tires blow ass and *****.

The mounts make it so you can launch at like 2.5k as well...oh and get a tune so you can shift at 7k

Not only do the stock tires grip like ice cubes, they don't last worth a ****. I had mine for 15,000 miles before they started developing bubbles. Dealer said I could try to do a warranty replacement from Pirrelli, but I just bought new ones.

I'd consider you do the same. May want to also move up in width. I think you should be able to fit 225/45 17's without a problem or perhaps 215 45(50?)/17s.

How much better will tranny mounts make it? can i get those in and be able to launch higher without getting wheel hop or will i still get a bit of it? I also would like a short shifter cuz i was having trouble getting into 2nd. i get to excited, seeing as how on alot of my launches i was outta there at .55 quite a bit, so i would pull the shifter too far down but too far left and wouldn't get in.

As of now im making my focus:

-Tires
-Definitely get my mounts in
-Get dp on
-short shifter
-tune

Mounts will make vibes thats all. You won't get hop on a hard launch at all...seriously get a tune mainly for the higher redline...

I reved to 4k and got slight wheel spin but no wheel hop and ran about 16.7ish maybe more maybe less and I'm stock with just a gmpp intake and had some trunk weight and slight elevation plus i'm a sedan. I thought the higher you rev the better your launch? 1500 sounds like too little thats like what i do to get going normally and its got like no launch power at 1500 cause i tried launching at that and it fucked me up with that taurus sho race.

Fail.

2.5k with mounts...1.8k without.

16.7 is terrible.

Don't get all emo on me, I just told you how to be faster...

RT has nothing to do with 1/4 time!

Jesus everyone has gone stupid all at once all over this forum!

no i know that's terrible thats cause i wasn't on a track and i had trunk weight (tool box, spare wheel, other stuff) and part of the street i was driving on became slightly elevated. so your saying the best launch for non mounts is 1800?? hmm.. ok (only asking if i take it to raceway park thats the only racing I do) i was just curious to see my times on non track

Don't just dump the clutch and hammer the gas, you'll never hook up and maximize your power in 1st. Rev it to around 2 grand, dump it, let your tires sink in to the sudden burst of speed from the launch, THEN go WOT. If you're squeeling you're not putting power down, plain and simple.

I usually dump it around 2k, max 2.5k, then hold the pedal at about half or 3/4 throttle until it completely hooks from the launch, then go wide open. You're already going to be spinning off the launch so why throw more power at it? The launch RPMs are not critical in comparison to what you do to control your tires from that initial jump you give it. More is not always better. Then again you want to maximize your power so ideally you'd want to give it just enough pedal to hook up and be boarderline/slightly breaking lose from the throttle you're giving it.

The best advice I can give you is listen to your tires.

There will be space...they will have one fuckfest of a time trying to get your tires on.

And Z, I wasn't referring to you man, right before lunch there was all kinds of stupid roaming amuck.

A tune with the 7k redline will help at the strip big time.

Also, practice launching without bogging the **** out of your car...you really have to roll onto the throttle...
