2.4 questions

I am looking at a 2.4L 07 cobalt I am not sure how well I will like this car, does it have some potenail I dont want to spend more then about 1200$ in upgrades its got 18,000 miles and is a 07(high milage)

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cars-....c0.m245.l1318
TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK OF IT ^

I would like to know which things totaling 1200$ would give me the most gains.

Intake: The stock air box is highly restrictive. Freeing this up would provide more air for combustion and increase power output

* Cold Air Intake
o Injen >>
o Fujita
o AEM
o Rebel Autoworks (RAW)
o Advanced JDM >>
* Short Ram Intake
o K&N Typhoon 2.4 specific >>
o GM Performance Parts >>
o AEM >>
o Fujita
o Z-spec/RSM Racing
o Air box mod INFO

Exhaust: The less restrictive an exhaust setup is, the more power will free up from an engine. Our 2.4 stock exhaust system is decent (has 2.5" piping), but it is restricted by the header, cat (in the downpipe), and the exhaust section from rear wheel back (which becomes 2.25" piping and has a restrictive muffler)

* Header (Exhaust manifold)
o Long Tube
+ Weapon R Race Header (with downpipe, no cat) >>
+ JBP Vortex Header >>
o Mid-length
+ ZZP Midlength Combo (with downpipe, optional cat) >>
+ SLP Combo (with downpipe, cat)
+ Vibrant Header Combo (with downpipe, cat)
+ OBX
+ Pacesetter Header
o Shorty
+ CA Header V1 >>
+ CA Header V2 >>
+ DC Header
+ Hahn Racecraft
+ GM Performance Parts
+ Stock Extruded and Honed
* Downpipe
o XTC Downpipe (optional cat, 2.5" or 3")
o ZZP Downpipe (optional cat, 2.5" or 3")
* Catback
o GM Performance Parts (Performance/Touring)
o Corsa (Sport/Touring)
o Magnaflow
o Megan Racing
o SLP Loudmouth II
o JBP Vortex 3.0" >>
o Pacesetter
o Ark Racing DT-S/N2
o Tusdo N1
o Borla
o Hahn Racecraft 3" >>
o Custom piping >>

What are you used to driving? Stick or automatic?

For a NA 4-banger the car is nice. If you drive or have driven more powerful cars then don't expect it to "light-your-fire". The only one that needs to be happy with it is you. Test drive it to see if you like it.

$1200 will get you an intake, exhaust, and a header....that's about it.

I haven't heard of this happening with the cobalts. If I remember correctly the Cavalier had major issues with the head gaskets my mom had a 94 Cavalier she got rid of it when the motor blew because of the head gasket.

nailed it.

dont worry about the engine. 2.4 ecotecs are the strongest n/a eco ever made (imo), and it will last forever. i'm a tech at GM and we've seen nothing (in our shop at least) go wrong with these motors YET. i've got one, i'm very confident in it. it runs great at 25k miles and i drive it like this --->

its a good, reliable vehicle. if ur lookin for fast, plan on dumping more than 1200 in it lol

Because there are lots of appearance parts to personalize a Cobalt

Goto crateenginedepot.com, click on Cobalt/G5 parts and look at all the stuff available just from GM, then look on other site supporting vendor's websites for even more.....you can spend lots of $$$...like me

By the time i will have my I/h/dp/e setup completed i will have only spent about $850

check this thread for an intake: Injen Sale

for the header/dp zzp is what i have, sounds amazing. just look around for a group buy from them or clear image or Turbo tech racing

for exhaust, you can either shell out 500-600 on a magnaflow setup, or buy all of the individual pieces and put it together yourself, or pay someone to do it for about half the price

also look at engine mounts, transmission bushings, and a tune
