2.4 sc build plan layout and questions
I was planning on going sc sometime around feb-marchish.
Im an auto 2.4 (08 model) so heres what im currently thinking. Feel free to correct me any place needed.
Parts layout:
LSJ take off sc setup
zzp cold air intake
siemens 60lbs injectors
dual pass endplate
zzp s3 heat exchanger
zzp modular pulleys (2.8 pulley)
zzp boost reference system
stage 2 belt
option b
zzp adjustable tensioner
Now for the parts in question.
I am planning on running fairly high boost.
Will the 2.4 need the upgraded valve springs?
Also I do plan on buying the zzp 2.4 cams if they decide to make them.
Also would I need to run a stock heat exchanger with the s3 zzp piece or will that be enough?
Would running an 03 cobra pump help at all with cooling?
Im also waiting for zzp or someone to come up with a throttle body upgrade for us 08 guys. (would do it myself but not electrically inclined lol)
The car is a dd but I do plan on having fun with it.
My power goals arent that high. (looking for 275 to the wheels) I think that should be doable as long as i can keep it cool and get a good tune on it.

valve springs are always a safe bet when running 15+ psi, cams can prolly wait until you see how there specd out, dont wanna run a turbo grind since thats what i think there leaning towards, i ran just a front mount h/e and not a stock lsj one, ran fine, AIT's were never and issue, also ran meth later, i ran a lsj throttlebody and just rewired it, Gene had a diagram that showed which low voltage and high voltage wires to connect
im re supercharging my car in a couple weeks, feel free to PM me if you got any questions

I am hoping they do a supercharged set of cams due to the fact they make a supercharger kit
Im not sure of what level of boost to expect on a 2.8. But I know my power goals. I read that the springs are a good idea above 12lbs on a 2.4 though.

Valve springs are need for like over 25 psi depending on stock springs tension. If you do cams springs will be need so the chance of breaking them goes ways down also if you rev really high they will be need so you don't float a valve and drop it. You also won't need the boost reference system right now the 60s will get you as far as the m62 will take you on pump gas.

the le5 has experienced valve float over as low as 14 psi
and when i went from a 3" to a 2.8" pulley i didnt gain a single whp, untill i added the BRFPS, so again, i would refrain from commenting on this since you dont know what your talking about

id do some more research before you start throwing out statistics like that, especially considering that your wrong

Kind of hope they release some cams by early spring so I can do the valve springs and cams at the same time. But yeah from what I had read on zzps website the valve springs seemed like something I might need. Sounds like I will need it from what ive been reading and what you (glen) has said. Not sure exactly what kind of psi a 2.8 will put me at (I know its not standard across all cars) but im thinking i will be close enough either way that the springs will be a good idea.
I think 275whp should be possible. Especially if zzp is getting 250whp out of a 3.1 pulley and 225 out of a 3.4 pulley. They had a stock cooling setup on that car.
Glen what kind of cooling upgrades did you run?

Look on zzps website even they have mention of the 2.4 needing valve springs above like 15lbs of boost. Which seems plausible considering its an NA engine anyway.
FYI. the 2.4 2008+do not have forged rods and pistons. so i woudlnt expect pushing it over 250 Smg found this out after a buddy put a rod thru the block in his 08 2.4 custom turbo build.
I guess they called GM after and found out they switched up the rods and pistons in 08 and they can do that without notice!

Glen is who i am talking about and once his engine was taken apart, SMG talked to GM about it because the Rod broke right at it's strongest point and GM told them that 2008+ they stopped puttin forged rods and pistons in the 2/4's.. i was at the smg lol
