2.4 Short Throw
2.4 Short Throw
Are there any short throw shifters available for the 2.4 SS? I found some on TTR website but says those are for the 2.0 only in the description
Also, if anyone else has one installed on their LS or 2.4, how much of a difference did you notice, worth the money I hope?

syncros get the dog gear(am i right?) spinning up to speed before engaging them so you dont grind the gears. when you use the short throw your sometimes upto doubling the amount of force that the syncro hits the gear with causeing it to wear quicker and eventually haveing to replace your transmission sooner.

the biggest thing is that people have this idea that a short throw will be the miracle that changes everything about how fast the car is. while a nice shifter may help in that it will make it feel nice, the days of a good shifter changing everything are long gone. think about it, if a shorter rod made THAT much of a diff, why wouldn't all cars just have them?

I'm not exactly an expert on shifter assembles so someone else can sure go into more detail that knows what they are talking about. But the bushings that come with the kit help alot too. And if you can shift faster you will definatly shave times of your 1/4. Imagine if you had to move the shifter about half as far (not quite what the difference is with the TWM, i think its a 40% reduced throw) that saves a lot of time. Anyways i'll let you guys know for sure how much it helps tommorow since i'm going to the track and only difference between the last time i went is my TWM shifter.

Scroll down do where it says "what is a short shifter". And right up above that is wher it states 38% throw reduction. And trust me you can feel the difference when you put the TWM shifter in.

i've rowed through the gears in one on a cobalt before and you can definitely feel the difference. it felt like the shifts were cut in half compared to my stock shifter. going from 1-2 was like going from 1-neutral on the stock shifter.
i don't believe in a short shifter having any ill effects on your syncros either...i think the deciding factor is the coordination between your foot on the clutch and your hand on the shifter.

that's def more true if it's a GOOD shifter. this is one of those "you what you pay for" deals. most of the abnormal wear just happens to be on cars that are driven harder. i drive like an old lady 95% of the time. every once in a while i open it up getting onto an on ramp just to make sure that i still can.
even so shifts are pretty quick now...i dont know if you all hav noticed...i found this is true on 1st- 2nd and 3rd to 4th....but the clutch doesnt have to be all the way down and if your good enough with timing you can catch the next gear faster without having the clutch all the way down and just barely sliding into the next gear before you let....it sounds stupid but trust me it works and no it isnt doing damage becuz if it was id hear it grinding
