2.4 worth it?

Well im still deciding on if i should go with the ss 2.4 or ss/sc 2.0...I know the SS/SC puts out around 205hp, but does anyone know what the ballpark HP of a 2.4 will be when the SC comes out for it?

a stock 2.4 i think puts down about 150 whp i think, a stock 2.0 puts down about 215 whp, with a supercharger or turbo kit i think the 250 whp would be easily achievable on stock internals

when the sc comes out for the 2.4, everyone will be wishing they had the 2.4 instead of the 2.0

The SS/SC is a better performance vehicle. It has better tires, better suspension, available G85 performance package with an LSD, better transmission and a better engine. If the 205HP isn't enough you are crazy! And if you are crazy, there is still 241HP available with stage II upgrade all under a factory warranty.

Bottom line is the SS/SC comes with more performance parts out of the box. The 2.4L has way too high compression to add forced induction. Anything over 8 lbs of boost, and you risk destroying your engine!

The 2.4L runs the regular, somewhat clunky transmission, clutch, and a suspension system that is not as performance oriented as the SS/SC. Many of these parts may not last under 200+ HP. The SS/SC is also intercooled, and has an oil cooler (not sure if the 2.4L has that).

As for a s/c kit, I have heard of nothing being released. I'm sure some tuner company will release something, but I don't expect GMPP to release one.

I debated over both, and I am glad I got the SS/SC. I'm in no way bashing the 2.4L, but I think based on what you have said, you need the SS/SC. The SS/SC is a fantastic performance value!

I'm putting down 237 whp with just an intake. With the Stage II with bigger injectors and smaller pulley, I'm expecting no less than 255 to the wheels. Total $$ spent to achieve this: approx. $1500. You can't come close to getting those numbers with a 2.4L without at least dropping $4000-$6000 depending on whether you want to supercharge or turbo. Ans then all you'll be doing is matching the numbers. The SC has aluminum lower control arms for wieght reduction, all forged engine internals, oil coolers and a higher compression ratio. If anything, wait until the turbo 2.0L comes out (if it does in the Cobalt) if you want some serious kick-ass performance.

BTW, I love the 2.4L VVT engine. I think this is the best 4 cly engine GM has come out with in a VERY long time.

Honestly both are worth the price. Either spend more on the S/C and less on aftermarket, or less on the NA and more on aftermarket.

the 2.0 SS/SC is certainly better for practical performance.

... i believe that when the aftermarket parts start pouring out that for enough $$$ the 2.4L ss will certainly be faster than the 2.0 SS/SC.

for out of the box performance a 2.0 wins hands down. but hell, with a GM stage II, a CAI, and an exhaust i dont see any reason why a 2.0 will not produce 260+ hp. still warranty.
for aftermarket hp, the 2.4L will most likely have a slight advantage.

if my car is around two hundred horse after a few mods what do you think as sc will to our cars. i guess you ss/sc guys will realize soon how little you guys can beat a 2.4 if i was to race one it would be really close. you might win by maybe a half a car.

Whats this based on? Have you gone to the track or ran against any s/c's? We are pretty much sittin at about the same hp, with good 60fts i can run 9.7's, maybe dip into the 9.6's. So far i've seen s/c's run around 9.4-9.2. So still anywhere from .2-.5 slower in the 1/8th. I'd say were sittin at high 14's. while stock s/c's typiclly run mid 14's. So not far behind but more then a half a car.
