2nd gear blues
5 Speed 2.4L. 1st gear is great, got that usual torque feel. 2nd gear feels like I can rev up the RPM's and she doesn't pull as fast. 3rd gear around 3500 and she pulls like a freight train. 4th is around the same as 3rd and so is 5th.
Anyone else notice that second gear is a bit of a pig as well?

granted i have a 2.4 ion but my car pulls great in first until like 6.2K or so and 2-4th pull hard after 3.5K .. Maybe you're not shifting well enough into second'? I don't mean to bash you driving skills but it just seems odd.. and 5 shouldn't be pulling that hard it's just meant for cruising

^^You prolly broke the tips off the shift forks. Which i do believe in turn screws up the syncro. The ecotec j-bodies have the same F23 trans and it happens alot to them. There is a rumor they have bronze shift forks to replace the nylon ones but I haven't conformed that. I'll know more next week when mine goes in for this. Soon yours won't even stay in 2nd and just pop into neutral when you let of the clutch.
back on topic-my second pulls really hard (when i still had 2nd). Then again i had a I/E/H/T and a 7000 rpm redline so it doesn't drop as low during shifts.

i found that it wont bog in second if you ride the clutch a bit= not good for clutch but good for racing
i used to just dump it into second and thats how i lost every race......
ive heard that the 2.2 has better acceleration but the 2.4l have better high end because of the vvt........i found this out personally by racing a 2.2 2003 cavi.......i pulled on him at the top end of 2nd and the low end of 3rd
