air snorkel?

guys i've read something about an air snorkel mod and was wondering what that is. Also, do you guys drop it into L to light it up? Or can you do it in D? I didn't know if the traction control would prohibit it or not. Thanks.

Okay.... a "snorkel" is something that sticks UP out of the engine bay, kinda opposite of a CAI which points down in the bumper. Jeeps, hummers, and other off-road vehicles use snorkels so they can ford deep water without the intake getting flooded. A "snorkel" for the Cobalt?? HAHAHAH that's pretty rich.

Second, yeah.... in mine I drop it down to Low to "light 'em up" or anytime I don't want the electronic nanny cutting in on me. I hate traction control... keep it on cars for the less skilled seniors crowd.

yeah this situation is kinda shitty, chevy has the automatic, but it had trc that just gets in the way, but for performance you need a limited slip which is only offered as an option for the sssc.
the snorkle as i know is for off road trucks like hummers and such, unless you kids are using it in a different context.
I test drove an auto ss, i dont remeber if the "I" position turned off the trc or not. does it?

Yesterday I was asked to spin 'em in my 2.4. I was like...whatever. I'd do it all the time in my old Honda becasue it was so easy with the stick. but eventhough mine's auto...I gave it a go. I did put it into first though to do it because the traction would've stopped it. It made a little squeal, and it left a few feet of black lines. Not all that bad for a still pretty new engine (that's made for midrange), an auto, and still really grippy Pirellis. I was as satisfied as I could get.

No -- automatics are for the "less skilled seniors crowd." Why do you have one?

Ive only had a stick for about 2 months now, but I went to back my parents auto out of the driveway and almost crashed. I put it in drive, and was looking for a clutch it felt so wierd.

FYI Bandit.... I got a SS 2.4 auto instead of a SS/SC for the practicality reasons. My daily drive is about 15 miles a day round trip, through stop-and-go city traffic. Sure... I love being able to open her up when I get the chance, and roasting ricers in their hondas on the weekends is a nice kick, but if I wanted a race car I certainly could have gotten one. I chose a car that would be sensible for my every-day commute and that I could have some fun with while I was at it.

Any more questions?

the snorkel mod you are refering to is when you take the bottom part of the airbox off the car so it breathes easier and sounds meaner look up a thread in the 2.2 section called "just did it tonight sounds and feels good"

I was about to jump up and bitch, but I looked up your city, its pretty big, bout the size of mine, so I'll give you your 15 mile drive, aslong as you get to enjoy some city architecture...
Mine though is 50 miles a day which consists of half freeway drive half stop and go on freeway (damn 270) and half slow **** on Big Bend. I'm going to buy a manual, i dont think it will be to bad for me, but i understand where your comming from.
This new "snorkle" term is inapropriate, why not just call it half assed air intake?

it just looks like a snorkel so i think its a good term and people know what you mean when you say it. its not half assed its just a free mod and good for us people that dont wanna spend $200 on a cai when they are getting a turbo which wont be able to retain a cai
