Question Annoying sound while accelerating

Has anyone else heard a sound while driving that sounds like air escaping from something near the passenger lower dash? It is NOT the air vent or fan. I know this because when I have the clutch out and I am giving it gas, the faster I go the more I hear it, similar to when a window is cracked a little. BUT if I am going say 50 and I hear it when I am accelerating, when I push in the clutch, it is gone. Then when I accelerate more, it is back. So it is not just air traveling into the car cause I only hear it when the gas is applied.

Does it have to do with that air filter that you can see when you open the glove compartment? Anyone else have this problem? Personally, I think it is annoying and shouldn't be there.

I get bad wind noise from my sunroof... when its closed but the screen is open... is very loud and annoying. Even had them re-align the sunroof. However when the screen is closed... the sound is gone.

I have a high pitched nearly unhearable ringing sound similar to the SC, but it's not. Usually hear it when I coast tho or under VERY low acceleration.

WickedSS, I hear the same thing. I have a basecoupe 2.2 though, but when accelerating WOT between 1500-3500 rpm I hear this ringing noise (gear doesn't matter), almost sounds like a low key blower whine, but it is damn annoying.

The noise that you're referring to might be becasue the exhaust tubes pass right through that area. When I opened the hood the day I bought it, I noticed the exhuast tubes go right through the back of the engine, and are visible very easily in the rear of the engine bay. so the noise might be due to the exhaust gasses going through since it's only at throttle? But that's my guess. But I do know what noise you're referring to.

I get a noise that sounds like the HVAC fan turning at low speed. Like a whirring/ticking noise. This happens whether the fan is on or not. It has to be something related to engine speed, perhaps belt, valvetrain, or maybe even increased flow to the heater/cooling core. (I'm not sure if the coolant/refrigerant flow increases with RPM)

That may be a good thought. It gets louder in every gear as the RPM's rise. It really is never loudest in 4th, just more noticable when the RPM's are high in any gear.

Plus I have an annoying rattle in the glove compartment somewhere too. Banging on it won't help. Lowsy plastic cars...

Thanks guys.

I've heard this sound before too, it is most likely just exhaust. When you're outside the car, u can clearly hear a wooshing sound from behind when any type of cobalt accellerates. It runs in the GM family. The worst cars for the wooshing sound are Grand Ams and Aleros.

Does anyone have a sort of water sloshing noise? Maybe it's only when it first starts up when it's like 8 outside, but when I revved it up a tad, it made this weird water sloshing noise. Anyone else have this problem since it's like 8 outside now?

No, but I do hear my gas sloshing around on quick stops.

check the water level on your coolant system

i know when i worked at chevy that sound is the water in the heater core , some vehilces had it really bad , and we had to put a restrictor inline to slow the water down as it goes through the heater core
