LSJ Downpipe

Well just got back from an exhuast place to diagnose this leak ive had for over a month. A few days ago it got really bad, so i finally took it in. Its the downpipe, its fucked, the flex pipe is torn up and exhuast is pouring out of it.

EDIT: Got an LSJ downpipe coming in now, thanks to Doc

Now the question... should i run with or without a cat. My car doesnt go through emmissions until 2014 so i can worry about that then. BUT, would the car then throw a code if i dont have a cat....

Yes get a cat bro trust me your ears will thank you for it. Plus the hp difference is little to nothing and when your safety is up you wont have to add anything to pass.

i have the stock resonator on my car, the thing is pretty damn big lol. I also have a big 18" magnaflow muffler, fairly mellow sounding car...

Im not thinking of catless for performance, just price.

trust me, ive had more exhaust combos on my car then anybody i know, the stock resonator is ****, your car will sound like ass with out a cat unless you get a ultra quiet resonator

or you could just get a new flex coupler and have a custom exhaust place weld it on for you, thats way cheaper

bleh, i could get this put in myself to save all the labour, much rather just get a new downpipe, i race the car anyways, so wont hurt to get a bit better performance out of it while im fixing it.

So any vendors got any deals for a downpipe?

Why not try to get a used SS/SC downpipe? Bigger tube, bigger converter, and will fit a 5-speed Cobalt perfectly...and no DTCs.

the 2 or so hp you will gain from going catless will absolutely not be worth the cost savings, imo. You will get zero noticeable performance gains, and it will sound like ass. I would get the cat. Check the for sale forums, most people sell their dp's for about 50 dollars plus shipping. If you don't have other exhaust work done, don't get an aftermarket downpipe if you're concerned with how the car sounds.

Red has the right idea. Get a LSJ downpipe. I have one, and it is surprising the difference

Manifold is the same. Downpipe is different. (2.4 is smaller diameter.) Catback is the same.

SS/SC Downpipe tube is 2 3/4" and the Cat is approximately 60% bigger
2.4L Pipe is 2"

my AUTO equipped 2.4L DP on top, SS/SC on bottom:
