can it be done?

so im sititng in class today and talking with a few people, and the subject came up on why gm never made a superchared auto coabltss. so my question is to the members of this site is ... do u think u could use a stock 2.4L auto and supercharge it and have it work sucessfully with no problems? or is it just too crazy of an idea to work

i heard some guys might have done this on this site already? if so post links so i could read up on how they did it

Check out Hunterkiller's 06 S/C Auto LS

Was done over a year ago and worked great on a 2.9 pulley, trifecta tuned.

Yes it can be done and has been. The only problem is you'll need a smaller pulley, 2.9" seems to stick in my mind. This is due to the auto trans tilting the engine slightly forward.

I drive it every day. I'll be hitting my first AutoX on Saturday. The "Gas guzzler" comment was about when I get into boost and get those 60 lbs injectors flowing. I actually get BETTER mileage now with my supercharger than I got before the install.

I spent about $2500 for full bolt ons, hardware, some specialty tools (tap, extensions, U-joints), tune, etc. And I did all the labor myself.

People have claimed to have done it for less than $1k, but I honestly find that number hard to believe. Seems like most people fall between $1300 and $2500 depending on how much they've already spent on bolt ons and how extensive their build is. The people who jumped at supercharging early in the game got the cheapest prices, but now there is quite a bit of demand for the used M62 components so they aren't going for nearly as cheap as they did before. I also accumulated all of my parts over the course of more than a year to try to find the best deals on parts.

I should also mention that I've recovered over $500 by selling stock parts off of my SS/NA on these boards.

That'd be the easiest way, for sure. Or wait for someone to decide to ditch the M62 for a TVS/turbo.

I think the only limiting issue is how much power the stock trans can hold/take. Did you upgrade anything in the tranny? torq converter or valve body?

Just a tranny cooler for me. celicacobalt ran a turbo LE5/Auto with 300(?) whp for over two years without a cooler and without a transmission tune before he ran into issues.

The 4T45E is the same transmission that's mated up to the V6 G6 and Auto HHR SS that both produce ~230 crank hp. The 4T45E has been proven to be quite capable in holding up to the power of moderate boost.

agreed everyone says these builds can be done for cheap but its not all true. another factor is all the parts you want and dont really need such as plx gauges and headers with full 3" exhausted catted with a res.

those little extras pretty much almost doubled my build price but if you wanna play u gotta pay

That's exactly what I'd suggest. Read as much as you can from all the people who have done supercharger builds. Beck, Hunterkiller, and Gene Culley all have very good, in-depth build threads. And just about anyone who has done the install is always more than happy to answer questions, myself included.

That's a good point. I didn't cheap out on my gauges. I bought Autometer SportComp boost and Wideband gauges and then spent $85 to get the ZZP dual gauge sedan pillar. If I'm going to be looking at those things every day, I want them to be appealing and to match the rest of my interior. I could have bought the UEGO for $250, but I decided to drop $350 on the Autometer wideband so that it matched the boost gauge that it would sit next to for its entire life.
