CEL, Went to the stealership...

Hey guys, I'm fairly new here. Just recently purchased my 07 SS 2.4. No Mods what so ever as far as I know, completely stock. A week after i drove it off the lot the CEL poped up. Now it doesn't stay on, it comes off for a couple of days then back on, it's been doing this consistently. Went and got it checked out at the stealership since it's still under warranty, turns out that the air/gas mixture isn't what it's supposed to be. Basically the engine is lacking gas so they say they need to clean out my fuel lines, a fuel air induction as they called it as well as decarbonize the throttle plate. Also turns out it's not covered under warranty of course. So now they want to charge me 220.00 to do this.

Now i found a place that will do it for under 100 bucks, but my question for you guys is if you think this is the only problem or can the cat be clogged up therefore causing this?

Please let me know what you guys think.

If only you had the CEL code(s), that could tell more of a story. Go by an auto parts store and get it read when the light is on, it's free. They are probably just wasting your time doing all that crap, cobalts throw cels easy.

I wouldn't pay anyone $100 to do that... It's really easy.
First things first, I would find out what the exact code is that is coming up (auto parts stores will let you check codes for free). From there, you can go about fixing the problem.

If you really want to clean out your fuel system and throttle body, while you're at the store pick up some STP fuel system cleaner and some throttle body cleaner. Throw the fuel cleaner into your tank with a full tank of gas and just pull off the throttle body (4 bolts and a hose clamp is all that you need to remove to do so) and clean it out with the cleaner.

how many miles? what exactly was the code? suggesting to clean the fuel system, at least in my experience, is an auto shops way of saying they want to gouge you and don't want to fix anything.

Awesome guys, I actually have the codes at home, i will def post them up as soon as i get home. If it's really that easy i will clean it myself. As of right now the CEl light isn't on but could there be any chance that it could be the cat?

By the way i got the car with 55,xxx. As of right now it has 57,xxx. I still have the 100,000 mile/ 5 year powertrain warranty and a 1 year bumper-bumper. and some how it's still not covered. I went to autozone before taking it the dealership to get the codes. Oh and i forgot to mention they were trying to charge me 97.00 for a diagnostic untill i gave them hell lol.

did you buy it from the dealership you took it to?

Talk to your salesman. They have alot more pull than you would think.

When I was a salesman, and I had a customer saying "XXX is broke, and they wont cover it"..I talk to my Sales Manager, and they made it happen.

When I was a sales manager...i just said "Do it"..and they did it.

Hierarchy goes as follows: Office / Sales > Tech > Janitors and crap.

We say, they do. However, the salesman should go talk to them and say "Why?" and figure out WHY they wont cover it..before getting the sales manager involved. because it could be a legit reason.

Good luck.

1st: P0300 - multiple cylinder random misfire = not bueno

Definitely sounds like an injector issue. I would take your TB off and clean it with some carb cleaner.

I would also add half a can of seafoam through your fuel tank, and if the injectors are just dirty, it should fix the problem.

I do hear a hissing sound at acceleration? At the auto parts i was told it could be a vacuum leak.

Now what's LTFT's?

Long term fuel trims. You probably don't know, you would have to use HPT or a similar program to log your car via the OBDII port to find out.
