Cherry Bomb Glasspack!!

** Disclaimer***
I searched and didn't find an answer.

I am planning to put a Cherry Bomb Glasspack on my 2.4. My idea was to just swap the stock muffler with the glasspack, is this possible or do i need to replace the whole thing? Keep in mind that I have like next to no money to blow on my car, so my options are glasspack or keep stock exhaust. I had a cherry bomb on my S10 (4.3L V6) and liked the sound, but I'm not sure if it will sound as good on the coby. So I am here asking the masses on css.net for advice
Thanks,
Matt

Most exhausts for the Cobalt use glasspacks. I bet it sounds like any other exhaust.

if you are doing the welding yourself then i say go for it. worth a shot.

if not then i would just leave it stock cause you may want to put the muffler back on!

I'd save that money then get a decent exhaust. What your looking to do it is nothing short of a welfare mod which will yield more negatives than positives. Just looking out. That's all.

Point taken. I would like to put an exhaust kit on, when i am able to aford it, but that won't be for a couple years. I am saving all my extra money (what little i have) to move out. I would like to do something now to get a louder sound from my car, and this is the only option (in my price range) i have found. I am glad for the input cause I don't want to do this and then regret it cause it sounds horrible/negitively efects my car

even a muffler swap which would cost only $25-45 more dollars then the glasspack will yield a better tone with the OEM piping. Granted you might not get that much power but the tone your looking for will be there.

Here's what I would do...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MEGAN...mZ380054781620

Some of you might not like Megan Racing exhausts but they are decent quality, stainless, much better than a glass pack and I think mine sounds really nice...

Or this...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/C10-C...mZ230282456466

or this...

Thanks for the advice. I will have to search, price, and think this over. do you have a prefered muffler? I don't want a giant tip on the back of my car. I like the current look, just not the sound.

I really like the Megan i have on my SS/SC however I think that most of the mufflers you get to put on your 2.4 are gonna be pretty raspy cause you don't have the oomph behind it that the SS/SC's do. I think the cherry bomb is gonna be the king of the raspy mufflers. Not to mention stainless looks soooo much better! Not to mention some of those have blue tips on them which would match your car...

#1 you will never hear the true sound with a video so you can't truly judge it

#2 You need to hear it when the engine is under a load. The sound of the exhaust changes dramatically depending on how much of a load your engine has on it.

I strongly advise against a cherry bomb...There are other options out there that will sound better and are better quality for about the same $$$ or less

i dont feel like reading through the thread lol cuz im tired and lazy, but the way i have my exhaust setup, i had the piping custom done, it single with no resonator into a glass pack (for fitment issues) and then duals out one out each side, and i have to be honest i love it. i wanted to run like a dynomax or magnaflow but i have my muffler in the tunnel where your resi. normally sits. i think magnaflow makes a round muffler but it was just easier to pick up and run a glasspack. but its loud, its deep, and i just love the sound off it. when i down shift its gurgle kinda like the srt's do but it sounds really good in my opinion.

also i just watched the video it has alot better sound then that lol

i had some i know who has his own fabricating business who help mock it up and then welded it for me for ...... um i think like 50 bucks or something for welding it for me. but i bought 10 foot section of 2.5 piping which was like another 40 or 50 bucks. um and of course glass packs are like 20 bucks or whatever. then i bought hangers to mount everything and two tips to bring it each side in front of the rear tires. all in all i spent somewhere between 125 and 150 i think.
but to explain how its ran, i used an old flange where the downpipe bolts to the cat back, i welded the glasspack to that flange so i can always just switch up to factory or upgraded cat back, then it comes out the glass pack and branches out into duals and come out as i said in front of the rear tires on each side. from flange to tips its all 2.5 piping.
