cold-air question...

I have a K&N intake for my 2.4L 08 sport, It doesnt go down in the fender or nething so i'm assuming its just considered a Short-Ram Intake... Now heres my question, whats the difference between this and a cold-air intake?? this was like 250-300 bucks... and if it doesnt give u as much performance as a 150-200 dollar cold-air intake, whats teh point hah

yes what u have is a short ram intake with a heat shield since its the k&n. there isnt gunna be any difference in performance between the two your still sucking cold air from the fender wall with the k&n and the heat shield keeps the heat from the engine away from the intake so your not getting the hot air from it. its pretty much preference but when it comes down to it its just a tube with a cone filter on it no matter which one u have.

Which is why it took me so long to get a commercial intake, and made my own first. Really the price is all in the name printed on it.

Question short ram and long air intake togather

ok I build a long air intake whit part I found at my auto part store it work great I still have to get a ait sensor housing your see it there all taped up. see fig 2 yes that not really working that well. in next day or two I will be getting a ait sensor house kit and I was thinking but getting small filter and taking out one of pip's see fig 1 that way pull some air for fender will and some engine bay. so you think that will be batter or is it not worth throw more money at it ?????

p.s the tubes came for kit made by spectre you can vist them at

a cold air is sposed to pull colder air (hense the name) due to being farther away from the motor(aka heat).

it does sound a bit louder.

a short ram provides a bit better throttle response(that i've noticed), but can heat soak quickly.

as for the pricing, you should of got a injen due to you being able to do both whenever you wanted too.

as for pricing though, you basically paid for a name.
