I dont think the air bags deploy at any speed. I believe they deploy upon the severity of the crash.

very well said, it may have been 25mph but at the time of the collision the amount of energy release is HUGE. at least nothing happened to u bro.

I hate to see a white SS down on its game! That sucks man, hope everything works out. If it makes ya feel any better, back when I had my '97 M3 that I wrecked, the damage looked worse than that, and it wasn't totalled. Got it fixed and back to me, sold it, and bought my '07 SS!

Just if anyone is still wondering the sensors are under/behind the headlights. They both have to be triggered to go off, why they didnt in his case i have no clue. Its prolly a good thing they didnt cause it could have caused you bodily harm and costed more money to get fixed. But the same thing happened to me when i owned my Cobra Mustang, a lady whipped on in front of me and locked her brakes wasnt **** i could do but hit her. And it was my fault 4pts. So i know how you feel man its blows how the sysytem works. Hope it gets back running soon.

i say about 99% of the time you rear end someone it's going to be your fault.

My Matrix was not totalled because the dollar amount of the damage has to be more then 80% of the current value of the car at the time of the accident. It was close....but not quite. If the airbags would have gone off the car would have had more damage then the 80% value so then I would have gotten a new car. And on my insurance I have a part that states I have a "modified" car. So any mods that I do are completely covered by my insurance.

When I banged up the 'trix, I got a new CAI, new HID's, new Hella Horns, and new Optima battery....no questions asked. I HIGHLY recommend that anyone who has a modded car get that added to your insurance. It should not cost too much more and you will not be wasting your money on the mods.

I had a small accident with my cobalt. I was driving down the road and someone started sliding so everyone slammed on their brakes. I put mine on and the abs took over. Well i bumped this lady in her Honda Van thing. I let out an expletive and got out of the car and almost fell on my ass. The whole road had about an inch of ice on it. So i went to make the police report and i said i told him the story and said i was going about Five. so no one is at fault and no points were assessed.
Cost me 700 bucks for bumper, paint, and install. Plus the lady filed on my insurance when nothing was wrong with he gay ass car.

Well I've been in a 3 car bumper to bumper wreck. A chic hit us, in turn we hit the car in front of us. Us and the car in front of us were stopped but the car behind us didn't stop. Her insurance paid to get our car fixed. However the car we hit cause she shoved us into it, our insurance had to pay to fix her car. It wasn't our fault for hitting the lady in front of us but since we did our insurance had to pay to get fixed. Not the person that caused the whole accident.

LOL the air bags do not deploy if the sensors get hit, thats one of the dumbest things Ive ever heard.

The sensors actually measure a rate of decel, and no the airbags wont deploy if you slam on your brakes. The car will slow down much faster traveling at 30mph and hitting a wall, then traveling at 30 and slamming the brakes.

chances are you hit the vehicle under 25mph and it wasnt a severe enough rate of deceleration to deploy the airbags.

Why do people think because the frame (unibody) is bent you can't fix it?

Its so fixable. All you need is a frame machine and someone that knows what they are doing to straighten the frame. In most cases the frame can be fixed from minor accidents. A twisted frame is a bit of a different story then a bent frame. In most twisted cases its actually easier to splice two cars together (the good halfs) and tack weld them back together. We did this with many cavaliers/sunfires and I'm sure the Cobalt is no harder.

Good luck with the door. That sounds like you need to put the car on a frame machine. The door should be closing and locking fine if lined up properly (the door).
