Smile Custom Air Intake?

Has anyone tried the make your own air intake kit from pep-boys?

just wondering, cuz i planned on doing this, just wanted to get a general idea on how i'd do it. cuz i saw they sold the maf sensor bracket part, and the elbow joints and stuff. just wanted to know how i'd place em together and what not. some guidance would be nice.

Thanks guys!

good luck with that.... most of the stuff at pep boys is for honda civics or s10's. if it is universal forget it they never work right, one thing isnt going to work on every car. if the reason that you are going this way is because of the lack of finances you should seriously consider the airbox mod. im gonna try to find a link.

Don't even think about that Pep Boys **** for your SS. You would be better off doing the Air-box mod like mentioned above, or just getting a K&N drop in air filter. Don't abuse that car.

theres nothing that intake pipes do differently on honda vs. a cobalt... I say screw the air box mod... do your thing and top it off with a k&n cone filter... you'll get the same results as a $300 shiney intake...

I am thinking about making my own too.
My friend owns a welder and I am pretty good with measurments.
Thinking about designing my own cold air for my 06 SS/SC.
They are pretty simple to make just need to get the right diameter pipe and bends to make it fit and of course you can't forget the mounting points, MassAir flow sensor insertion point, and your crankcase vent.
When it all done I'll start a thread with my design.

if you pay 11.95 for a custom intake, you'll get your moneys worth... maybe

there may be nothing different about he piping but i am almost sure that the intake for a honda is not located in the same place as the intake on a cobalt... the only way i would consider this is if you were trying to do short ram and even then i would be very very skeptical

i believe honda motors are backwards in relation to ours... the header and downpipe is in the front when looking at the hood, and the throttle body is in the back where our exhaust manifold would be.

not sure if there are pep boys in NJ or FL, but what he's talking about is lose pipes with different bends and some silicon connecting pieces that you purchase and put together your self... its not honda specific, i said honda to illustrate that an intake is just a pipe with a maf sensor and a filter...

the air box mod is a good idea but..its not gonna give u much flow. i would recommend taking out the other piping below the box cuz it is very restricting..and i mean very. im sure u guys with CAI already know. take that out run like 3" piping from the air box to the bottom of the car and get a drop in. it mite be easier and have better results....how do u guys like your 2.4's. im looking to get one...i had a 2.2 until a guy hit my driver side doing about 60+https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/north-east-56/we-almost-lost-member-34436/
there is the link to the thread my guys posted about me. im curious bout the 2.4..help

i really like my 2.4 the only problem that i have had with it is the brake rotors do not stop warping.

If you want a nice intake, you're gonna have to spend a little money. Cheapin it out will result in a cheap looking intake system.

Not trying to get on your case but just do it right the first time.

ok, no more ripping on the guy lol.

but what i intended to do was get the pep boys custom one, make sure to measure all turns and diameters, and get the insert for maf sensor, then put the 4 inch or was it 3inch cone filter in the end, and make sure it wasn't throwing any codes at me. What you guys think?

Thanks everyone for the feedback, it makes things easier for me!
