Do I need an Oil Cooler

Well I got around to installing a twin trans cooler setup. Needless to say I'm pleased with the results. The transmission feels great even after driving for hours!

My question is would my 2.4 LE5 benefit from an oil cooler?
I've found sites online stating that the newer design of the motor (mine's a 2009) has better cooling jets and oil feeds so It naturally runs cooler and more efficient as it is.

So what do you all think? I found an adapter that replaces the oil filter cap and allows the use of an oil cooler, but I'm not sure if it would be worth it. I'm sure it would be quite helpful if I plan to beat on it a bit.

Above the front of the transmission, to the right of the intake manifold

Here you can see it barely poking out above the dipstick and again to the right of the intake manifold.

A lot of the veterans don't even recommend a trans cooler on the 4t45's.

I got a 2009, I don't think it has a stock oil cooler. And from what many have told me a trans cooler would be a good idea. And Even so, after installing the trans cooler I've experienced nothing but positive things happening. Like the shifts feel smooth and sharper and crisper. The torque converter engages really smoothly now. Even after driving for hours through stop and go traffic. The transmission loves it.
And from what I've read online the dex 6 fluid works really well when it's cooler.

Now winter time is another story haha, but I'll tackle that when the time comes.

I was just curious about the oil cooler.
I found an adapter that basically allows you to relocate the oil filter so in the process of doing that an oil cooler can be added. I just don't know if I really need to worry about that. ha

Unless you go turbo I wouldn't worry about it at all.

Oil cooler removed 2007+

My tranny cooler has done wonders, haven't seen a temp above 150*f even on hot summer days bombing around.

I've seen that adapter, slick looking unit. Can you share the link, I'm gonna pick one up eventually and do exactly what you are asking. Bigger better filter and a cooler.

eBay is where I found that adapter:
Ecotec L61 LE5 remote oil filter adapter cooler billet! | eBay
It's main purpose is to relocate the Oil Filter but it would allow the addition of an Oil Cooler..

I plan to supercharge my motor in the future, Do you all think it would be wise to add an oil cooler once I add some boost?

Nice.

I'm doing it, if anything a higher quality filter will do wonders for engine longevity.

True that, along with an oil cooler if you really feel like womping it on a regular basis
Looks like you just get that adapter, you would need lines and an external oil filter setup. But worth it IMO
