Dyno results for 2.4L

I finally went to Oakville to pay the guys at Tag Racecraft a visit. Thanks to them for waiting for me 'til 8:15pm. I admit I was a bit edgy since Ive never dynod any of my cars.

Anyway our rides (2006 CobaltSS 2.4L manual) are supposed to produce 171bhp and I believe around 163ftlbs of torque stock. Therefore, if we ball park that wheel horsepower is BHP-20% our cars have around 137whp and 130wtrq stock.

My car is not totally stock, Ive got the 2.25inch Magnaflow, and Injen SRI installed. On a 3th gear pull it produced the most horse, and a 4th gear pull produced the most torque. On the dyno my car produced a max power of 153.8whp (about 185bhp) and 150.8wtrq (bout 181trq). Overall Im happy with the result and let me know if you can see the posted pic.

cool, thanks for finally getting a dyno done on the 2.4 i should be going soon as well, although i do think the 2.25 exhaust is really holding this car back. ill post up my auto numbers in a bit with my 2.5 inch corsa exhaust and injen short ram intake.

Nice numbers!

Correct me if I am wrong, your assuming too much drivetrain loss.

An auto would be abuot 20% and a manual, I have heard 13%.

So 173hp and 170lbs-ft si what I get (your numbers X 1.13)

I'd love to get my car dyno'd but at this high altitude it would not come close to normal numbers.

you're correct on those drive train loss assumptions

Unfortunately, I dont know too much about dynos. What are the different types? Mabye Ill be able to help once you let me know the types. And Im very interested to see the difference between the 2.25 and 2.5inch exaust since the guys at Magnaflow recommended I go with the 2.25. Hope you get that done soon

mustang dyno = most common, ground dyno
dyno pack = used with no wheels on the car machine attaches directly to the hub
dyno jet = common, in ground dyno
butt dyno = most commonly used by everyone

It had to be either a mustang dyno or dyno jet

Those number seem a little low for having a exhaust and intake..... Thats what that car should be getting stock. I would have guess you would be at 160-165 Hp. I bet that was a mustang dyno.

It sucks being at a high elevations doesn't it? I lose about 40Hp at 5000-6000 ft. You would probablt be disapointed as well but you can always just look at the corrected #'s

What do you mean I should be getting 160-165? I dont think a naturally aspirated car can gain around 25 wheel horse power just from those two basic mods. It would be nice to gain that much, but very unlikely.

165 would be possible with the right conditions and a healthy engine

Ouch guys, spirit shattering going on here. So youre saying that these numbers are inaccurate or that my car was a factory flop?

^^ Taking 13% off of 171 Hp you should have 148Hp to the wheels, and 142 Tq to the wheels.

You have
152Hp and 151Tq
148Hp and 142Tq should be your stock numbers.

With you mods you should have 160-165 Hp and 150-155 Tq. Your torque is good but your Hp looks low. Are you at a high elevation? Are those #'s corected? If i were you the next thing i would do ius get a new header, I bet that would help gain a few ponies.

i think its just your area you live in, have there been any ss/sc dynos from your area that would back up low numbers for the elevation?

haha

T.O is only 250 feet above sea level

Engine horsepower decreases about 1.5 percent for every 500 feet above sea level.
Turbocharged/Supercharged engines may decrease by about one percent for every 500 feet above sea level

so about half a % due to him being in T.O ..lol

A buddy's SS/SC was on the same dyno and made 203HP and 185 TQ if I remember correctly. Dyno #'s mean ABSOUTELY NOTHING!!! You get a baseline # and tune from there on to maximize modifications. No 2 dynos read the same as many factors will change the HP number such as air temp, calibration of dyno and such. My Stage 1 reflash should be here early in the week and I guarantee that my car won't be at a dyno as I test HP at the track. Anyway, glad to hear you had fun Marin don't let anyone tell you "your car is a flop" or "it's not making HP" a dyno is only meant to "tune" and tell you if you made HP from your last modification and run.
