Engine lags when hot?
Today i was in a ton of stop and go traffic because of a major accident, also made a few stops to places for a few min, turnin the car on and off and such. Well finally im on my way home, get out of the stop and go traffic and hop onto the highway, im in 2nd and give it gas toi merge, and the car completely lags all the way till i hit 4k then suddenly wakes up. Once i was on the highway for a few min, i got off it, and the car was back to normal. What would cause this? too hot?
I have a K&N SRI, the intake you could barely hear either when giving the car gas until it hit 4k and then it suddenly woke up, i really noticed it in 2nd gear because it usually pulls nice in that gear. Like i said though, once it got out into open air for a few minutes, the car went back to normal.

its the K&N because it's so hot under the hood. thats the one draw back from the K&N, yes it has a heat shield but heat can go around it lol especially when you've been sitting your hood traps it all. but once you get the hot air worked through its fine.
and btw i have the K&N on my G5 GT as well

I'm thinking that it was the knock sensor -- lots of heat probably created a knock - preignition - condition so the ECM was pulling timing to protect the engine. Same thing happens if you use low octane fuel. Happened to my SS/NA in the heat with the factory intake, GMPP intake and K&N intake. Irritating isn't it? It's like the car is underpowered...and forgot how to get going...LoL

Meh as long as it's normal I can live with it. Normally I'm not doing so much stopping and go driving for so long. Traffic, turning the car on and off many times for only a few minutes each time, so I've never experienced the lag before lol. Usually it's a 5 min drive to work or a 40 min drive to the city that's mostly highway. Oh well, atleast I know now, kinda scared me when it first did it lol

Yes it is... I am looking into this with hpt.. I think it may have to do with the fan settings being set too high... Apparently the fan doesnt flip to 100% until its in the 240's.... For a high compression engine that it is, that temp is stupidly high... I am in texas, and tired of the lag on hot days. A work around is to flip on the AC when in traffic. First I gotta fix this reoccuring MAF issue that seems to plague me.

pft.. one night I was sitting behind an old chevy truck at a light when my girl looks over and asks if that smell is my car overheating.... told her she was nuts and it was the truck in front... light turns green and i felt the super lag... felt like i was driving my 4 cyl jeep all over... coolant was sitting at 235, no fan... ran home on ac, got the laptop, fliped the fan on with hpt, all was good again... dunno the car is glitchy sometimes...

At least it happened to you on the track...I got the lag mostly in a merge into traffic coming home from work. Real great when there's a 1.6L Honda passing you...way to go Chevy SS/NA...like a rock...LoL!!! My fix was the Jet performance module -- it didn't make the car much quicker but it did get rid of that DAMN <4K RPM lag.

God this lag gets annoying lol, I was in a bit of light traffic and not even hot out and it started lagging lol. Guess I gotta calm my driving a bit, not exacly a slow and relaxed driver lol

Hate to say it but the lag is what helped me to decide to get rid of my Balt. It didn't do it all the time but when it did it was usually when I needed the power the most -- like merging into heavy traffic. If you don't have a tune you might consider one of the Jet modules (stage 1 or 2)...just a thought.

im going to be getting a trifecta tune, im going to email vince about the lag tonight, see if he can suggest anything. Its not horrible since i dont usually travel out of town and thats only when it does it sometimes so its not a huge deal.
