Get a real exhaust. Want a can look or a stealthier almost stock look? I'd recommend a 2.5" catback exhaust. Stainless steel is also a must.

exhaust in what looks like a kitchen. very unsanitary...

But in response to your question, I was told by a trifecta dealer tuner who has a 2.2 G5 monster to leave the catback as is, and just get a muffler. Our catback is already 2.5. He said forget the over axel pipe, because even though it goes down to 2.25, that gives it more back pressure which NA cars need. For header and DP, this is what he told me. I have an LSJ DP, and he said leave it LSJ. (in your case if you have stock then look into getting an LSJ DP) He said don't get an aftermarket DP, because it's pointless. The LSJ is 2.75, and that's more than enough. He said just replace the cat with a magnaflow cat (or go catless if you prefer catless) and get the header of your choice. Saved me $315 dollars. Now I just need to get a magnaflow cat, and muffler.

Ok here are few questions for the op what are your plans with your car ? Why do you want a need muffler sound or performance? If you plan on just having an exaust for the sound go get just a muffler and a lsj dp if you plan on having any kind of performance don't be lazy get a good catback, a good header and dp, and a good intake, if you plan on supercharging it anytime soon don't mess with an intake, and if you plan on getting a turbo don't mess with any of it. Build it now for what you want in the future will save you time and money

A few reasons actually the 2.5" piping from chevy is measure o.d. so really its only around 2.3" I.d. all cat backs are 2.5" I.d, second most cat nacls use less bends than stock so the increases airflow, and third mandrel bends the places where the stock is bent have one side of the piping pushed in causes those places to be a restirction

Oh and btw I.d. = inside diameter and o.d. means outside diameter
