Hey guys, new question for ya all.

First off, I want to claim that I am a complete newbie when it comes to cars and upgrades. but heres my 2 scenarios that I am thinking about right now.

I have a 2006 SS 2.4L automatic bought new. Nothing as been done to it other then 3 oil changes and a tire rotation.

Heres my query. I noticed that the intake right now leads to the left of the car and looks to draw towards the bottom much like the cold air intake from GM does.

Scenario 1: I could replace my orignal air filter with a K & N (I heard its one of the best air filters)

Scenario 2: Put in the cold air intake from GM. I am leaning towards GM parts since it will be under warrenty.

I do like the idea of better gas milage and having a little extra hp under the hood.

Well, you get what you pay for.. so if your just looking for something inexpensive and hardly no noticable gain, then go with the K&N. But if I were in your situation, I would choose the intake.

I would lean more twards the whole CAI. you will get better preformance and I dont think the GM CAI uses oil on its filter like the K&N does. (could be wrong on this). The oil causes problems with the MAF sensor if you dont clean it regularly.

You are right - the GM cone filter is dry. Some of the check engine light (CEL) issues have been because of oil on the mass air flow sensor (MAF).

The GM system is not a cold air intake unless you seal it to the bottom of the hood and cut your hood and put on a scoop. If you just install it the way it is, it will pull air from the stock intake from the fender well, plus it might pull in some hot air from under the hood due to not sealing well against the hood.

I believe it's worth the money. The construction is definitely quality.

My GMPP intake will be in tomorrow. I could have done the K&N thing too but be warned
GM DOES VOID WARRENTIES ON CARS WITH OILED AIR FILTER! Thats why I'm getting the GMPP one, I just don't want any hassle at the dealership should any issues arise.

go with the entire intake the k&n filter does next to nothing. with an intake your car will sound alot better at wide open throttle and it will give you more gains than just a drop in filter.

Only if the oil is what caused the problem/failure. Don't over oil the filter and it will be fine.

I would just go with the gm cai though.

AEM also uses a dry flow filter with their CAI's.

so wait gm intake isnt cold air...all i wanna know is that..if i get the gm intake...do i get that cool whine sound from the supercharger that everyone brags abotu after gettign CAI?

GMPP CAI isn't available for the 2.0 S/C.

no!!! so theres no way i cna get a CAI withot voiding my warranty or am i just gonna have to switch my stock box back if i ever have to go to the dealer?

All you need is a DRY style air filter. The oiled ones are a point of contension for GM.

There is an AEM dryflow (unoiled) intake available for the LSJ.

Have fun! It's an easy hour job if you have the tools handy (and don't mix up the clamps )

Are you considering installing a scoop and making it functional from the top?

Yeah I figured that. As for cutting the hood.....um, NO! LOL! Did you ever finish yours?
If I cut the hood on my 1 month old car my wife would in fact KILL ME! LMAO!

But how did yours turn out? I see a scoop, whats up? is it functional?

Absolutely functional. Works great. No problem with rain, either.

Too bad you don't live closer to Colorado - I'd do the mods so you could blame me to your wife!

I did a how-to on both the intake install, and the hood mod. Both are links in my signature below my car pic. Mouse over "GMPP Intake Install" and click and it will take you to the intake how-to. "Making the intake functional" will take you to the horror pics of me drilling holes in my hood and the rest of the hood mod.

If you haven't done your intake, maybe my tips will be of some use.

Thanks man. I put it on last night, took all of like 20 minutes! It has GOT to be one of the easiest mods! AND it makes a NOTICABLE difference! Lower RPM's seem the same but mid and high RPM's the car pulls harder. I did a timed test up a big hill near me and from 0 to 60 going uphill the cars times dropped by a couple seconds! So that PROOVES it helps make more ponies.

Well worth the money in terms of fit, finish, and bang for the buck. I would recomend it to anyone.

im going to order one from my dealer after i get the lip put on my car. if i put it on myself can GM void the warrenty because i didnt let the dealer install it. or will it not matter? and does anyone have a video of how it sounds.
