That's why the inlet on the filter is offset.

Loosen the clamp that holds the filter to the airbox top. Rotate the filter and you will note that it also moves up and down in the airbox. Rotate it until it is below the top of the airbox top gasket. Clamp it back down.

Mine doesn't have that problem, but I was fairly careful to get it positioned.

I posted that, I believe. Not sure if that on sale price is still valid (can't remember what month that was).

As for sound, mine is a lot quieter than one that breathes from under the hood. Once I sealed it well to the actual hood (not the hood blanket) and got it breathing through the hood and the scoop, it's quite a bit quieter inside the car. If you roll down the right window, you can really hear it sucking through the scoop.

BTW, I re-did the gasketing on the bottom of the hood this weekend and got it working much better. I'll try to update the pics in the "how to" soon. The new seal I built for the bottom of the hood is much better - same material, but it's 1 1/2 inch wide rather than 3/4.

No mushed filter here either, you must have it positioned off just a little.

Take a look at the actual instructions for this kit at the following link:

GM says it's for 2006 2.2 and 2.4 Cobalt. since there's no difference in the intake for any year 2.2 or 2.4, ignore the "2006."

Eh, I still think short ram is the way to go with these engines. The one I did gave me great haul in all rpm ranges. Seems the ecotecs kick more ass when they can breath freely. LewiSS, where'd you get that hood scoop? I want something like it, but I might find another style I like. I really want to make my short ram pull more from the hood than the engine bay, although I love the deep roar I have under load. I repainted my interior as well yesterday! Gunmetal metallic! pics soon!

The scoop is from Summit (it comes as a pair - I didn't use the mirror image one):

Summit Racing
http://www.summitracing.com/
Scoop P/N SUM-471104CF

That info is at the top of the "how to" about making the intake functional (see the link in my sig).

I've since opened up the space between the 2 holes I drilled in the hood and trimmed out the hole with door edging. Once I get the SS hood blanket installed and trimmed to clear the intake gasketing on the hood, I'll post revised pics in the how to.

Nice, how is the structural integrity holding up with the giant oval?

Seems fine. The scoop is both bonded on and has 4 pop rivets holding it. Since the scoop was in place before I cut out the area between the holes, I believe that helped. the oval is about 2 X 5, so it's not that big an area with the scoop stabilizing the area around it.

I should have the new SS hood blanket by this weekend. Once I modify it (neatly this time ) and get it in place, I'll modify the "how to" post with the new pics.

But to answer your question. I can't. The only person that can anwser that question is you. Do you want to spend more and get more perfromance/sound? Also, are you comfortable with installing it yourself?? How far do you want to take your car, modding wise?? These questions can only be answered by YOU.

Man LewiSS, You seem to be the only one with enough ***** to cut a hole in you hood. I have cut holes in quite a few hoods on other people cars, but I can't do my own. Your my hero!

Thanks, DenniSS! You pioneered the GMPP intake on the forum. If it hadn't been for your post and pics I wouldn't have bought one and taken the next step in developing this part.

Since I cut out between the 2 round holes and finished off the edge with trim, I feel a lot better about it (it now looks reasonably stock). Once I sort out the new SS hood blanket with a professional looking cut-out around the hood intake area I'll revise the pics on the how-to. At that point I'll be satisfied with it.

A lot of years ago when I was 18 we put holes in brand new car hoods without a second thought. I guess I never progressed past 18 mentally. My 20 year old NHRA-fan daughter thought it was perfectly natural, too. But I have to admit I did it when my wife was out of town on business.

is gm really browsing th web site??

i find it very disturbing that some guy, i dont remember his name, made a post on here stating that he wont list his mods due to gm browsing the web site! I'm assuming he means to void warranties. Can anyone shed some light on this???

One possible explanation:

A few years ago, when the Mitsu Evo came out, they were having trouble with oil starvation in hard cornering, to the point of having to warranty engines for spun rod bearings (I have direct experience with this, as the Gen I Neon ACR I had had a version of that engine, and had the same issue). Car and Driver or Road & Track reported that Mitsu was surfing the web when a car came in with this problem, and if the owner was listed on SCCA web sites they were not honoring the warranty since the car had been raced (the problem was much worse for the SOLO II guys). Interesting, since Subaru, at the time, was giving out a 1 year membership in SCCA with each STi. That soured me on Mitsu to the point of avoiding even considering them since, and makes me think well of Subaru (although their stuff is overpriced IMHO so I have never bought one).

This could be the precedent.

isnt GM's intake a short ram? if it is..u wud get alot of heat soak from that engine. that thing gets really hot. so it would really do much...u wud def want a cold air intake so its at the bottom of the car suckin all that cold air in..that will be much better

illmatic, the GM intake will suction/close against the top of your hood. not allowing the engine bay heat to be sucked in by the intake. Thus this just sucks the cooler air out of the stock plastic piping down in the fender.
