Good basic mods for 2.4..

Hey guys,

So, now that summer is upon us, I've been able to start working full-time again.. Thus, more mods! So, last summer I was picking up a ton of stuff cosmetic-wise, and a few performance things, but now I want to do more..

Thus far, my performance mods are custom exhaust, Injen intake, Sportline springs, DC strut bar, IRL wheels and s/c brakes.. I had a GMPP exhaust and ZZP header/dp on it, but the **** was crazy loud, so now I'm a custom tubing with Dynomax Super-Turbo.. I'm also currently running my Injen intake as SRI until HPT.. And a K&N Ultra-Flow filter is on it.. I'm auto also..

So, what are some good mods to do for 2.4's? I haven't bought anything performance for awhile, so I'm out of the loop.. I've seen alot of guys running bigger throttle-bodies, bigger injectors, etc.. I'm not going to do ANY internals.. These are only going to be bolt-on for now.. I'm only ripping my valve-cover off to paint it, not doing anything inside the block yet.. So no pistons, etc..

I know I can't really do much for my tranny since I'm auto, but HPT is on the way after I'm done with bolt-ons.. Then I may get the ZZP s/c kit later..

How about brakes and suspension? I plan on getting either FE5's or Koni Yellows soon as well as a steering rack spacer.. Think I should look into sway bars? If I do sway bars, I'll just do the front when I do struts.. I'm also seeing a few guys running G6 suspension things.. Maybe knuckles or something? What's up with those? Should I look into it? Is the Brembo front kit worth the money? Otherwise, just get good pads, rotors and braided lines?

Essentially, the car is my daily-driver and tuner.. But I do have the Olds and my bike I can use if the car is down.. Mild build-up mods this summer, possibly ZZP M62 kit next summer.. Then the following, possibly buying a parts car and trying the infamous auto to manual swap..

So, any suggestions? Any ideas would be appreciated.. Thanks!!!

Bigger TB's and injectors won't do much if at all it may hurt. They would require a tune to run properly and only really benefit you if you have forced induction like a S/C or Turbo

Actually you can get a TCM tune to change the shift points and make the shifts faster and harder. The auto trans can handle more power then the F23 manual.

Best bang for buck suspension wise, get a set of FE5-S struts (FE5 LNF) and a set of Pedders springs. OTTP has a combo set for a good price. If you have the money you could get a good set of coilovers like Stance, but the FE5/Pedders combo is a good handling package for a good price. You should get a steering rack spacer to re-align the steering rack to the tie rods to prevent bumpsteer as well.
Sway bars will also help greatly. The front is pretty tricky but the rear is simple. the front sway bar on the factory FE3 suspension is not that bad its 22mm, if you upgrade it look at the FE5-LNF or FE5-LSJ front bar. The LNF's is 25mm and the LSJ 24mm. Aftermarket ones like Eibachs are pretty large and would only hurt the handling more then help. For the rear look at the OTTP Street or Hardcore bar, they are made by Powell RaceShop and really help the handling.
The G6 knuckle is just a stronger steering knuckle then the factory ones. Its really only necessary if you race the car weekly. The factory ones fine.
And I'd stick to the brake you got now and just find a good set of pads and rotors. The Brembos look good and probably do have better braking performance but they do cost some money and you also run into wheel fitment issues. The slight upgrade in brake performance you'd see really isnt worth it on the street as a DD.
Answers in red, hope this helps.

Thanks guys!

Referring the the last post, I have Ion Redline wheels which were actually really popular when the LNF's came out because it was one of the only wheels known to fit over factory Brembo's..

So you're looking at:

- FE5 struts (particularly SS t/c one's if possible)
- possibly swapping Sportlines for Pedders
- possibly swapping whole set-up for coil-overs
- no larger t/b or injectors unless boost
- larger front and rear sway bars, including steering rack spacer (either FE5 or OTTP)
- get HPT for sure
- Brembo's not necessary, but upgrade rotors and pads for sure
- G6 knuckles not necessary

Right?

Now, another few questions..

Would you guys go for the ZZP M62 kit, a DIY M62 kit, a Saab 9-3 turbo kit, or a DIY turbo kit?

The ZZP kit seems really straightforward, but I've always liked turbo more..

Thanks!

If you want turbo, do it. The supercharger kit is gonna be cheaper, but turbo will make more power. ZZP has kits for both.

How about doing a hybrid turbo swap fro ma Saab 9-3 2.0T? It's essentially an LSJ motor with an LNF turbo kit..

sorry to butt into your thread, but what about control arms? is it worth upgrading fe3 control arms to lnf? or lsj? or is it only necessary if you race a lot?
