header wrap?

does anybody know how much if any more performance you would get from wrapping your header with heat insulating header wrap?

There really isn't performance gains from it necessarily.

It's only used to insulate heat if NEEDED. If you're running a header (for example) that isn't coated and it causing you to heatsoak tremendously, this might be a route for you to go but you also have to think about the possibility of quicker rusting when it comes to condensation and the wrap holding it causing it to rust and deteriate much easier.

It's more cost efficient and more reliable to get a ceramic coating.

Some people use it on various turbo setups depending on certain locations because they do exceed a very high temperature but there are even coatings available for EXTREME exhaust temperatures to keep from cracking and having heat energy escaping from the header/manifold and through the exhaust system like it should be.

If you want to wrap something, consider a wrap on your intake tubing. That'll drop your charge temp by 5~10 degrees.

Is it a bad idea to wrap stainless steel headers scince there not supposed to rust? Its very dry around here

Holy 9 yr thread bump.

The rusting out issue really isn't a problem unless you get them wet and let them stay wet. Since they're hot the water doesn't really get down to the metal, humidity changes or extreme temp swings can cause some condensation, but again they're hotter meaning it won't condense there.

It shouldn't be an issue on most ecotecs, you can always install some heat shielding before header wrap, or you can send the header out to get ceramic coated. It's pretty cheap and lasts and looks better than exhaust wrap.
