Hydro locked my motor!!! Thinking of suicide!! lol jk
hey guys ok so i havent posted on here in about an month because ive been bumed out because i hydrolocked my motor. What happened was i was pulling into an parking lot while it was pooring down rain and hit and large pot hole that was full of water. And being the parking lot was full of water my intake submerged for a fraction of a second before i turned it off. But that was all it took, I let it sit untill the rain stopped and i went to try to turn it over and the motor was locked. So i call my dealership and the send an roll back to come get it and they start tearing th emotor apart and instead of being an rod it actualy cracked the head and supposvily the crank case. So they have had my car for about an month and they just got the new motor in yesterday so i should have it by sunday they say. But this is an lesson to all you guys with an cai make sure you have an by pass valve because it will save your ass! The dealership said that they couldnt covor it but insurance will all i have to pay is an 500 dollar deductable which really sucks but its cheaper than me paying 6k for the motor and labor which is what was quoted.
I'll hav epictures up in 10 minutes

Damn man, that sucks. This is the exact reason that I do not have the cold air attachment on my Injen intake. A lot of people on here don't understand why some of us go short ram and are hesitant to add the cold air portion for fear of hydrolocking the engine. This proves that you don't have to "drive through 4 feet of water to hydrolock the engine." I drive through huge puddles all the time in Atlanta.
Anyhow, I am glad that at least your insurance covered it. Best of luck to ya.

Nice job...lol j/k but that does really suck. I blew my motor and they replaced it which included breaking down the old one to see what happened and did some paint work all within 3 days

That must have been a really freakin deep puddle to "submerge" the Injen CAI... the filter element on that is at bumper level... just below the headlight.
Still a good word of caution... slow down in the rain sorry you had to learn the hard way.

This should be covered by "Comprehensive"....make sure this is how your insurance company is categorizing it...
If so, your rates will not go up.
You should also ask them how much it will cost to lower the deductible for comprehensive (NOT collision...that should be at $500 or more). Mine is set to $50 because its CHEAP to do so. Check the various increments for $0, $50, $100, $250. Everyone should do this.
Comprehensive can cover stuff like a roadstone cracking your windsheild. Having a low deductible for it makes sense, and is usually only a few extra insurance bucks.

I don't see how an insurance company is going to cover this with an aftermarket intake that has a caution about water getting into the engine.
Good deal for you though.
