Lightbulb I need MORE power!!!

What are some upgrades, other than intake and exhaust, that can get me more power in my SS 2.4? I am on a limited budget so I need some suggestions that are reasonably priced. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

well basically not much more yet power wise but in essence if you do some suspension mods like springs and or engine mounts and tranny mounts you should get more power to the ground and be able to more eefectively use the power you already have which is like having another power mod

You could switch to synthetic engine oil and transmission fluid. It should free up a few hp.

Any gain would be pretty small but every little bit helps.

And then theres the better protection/increased longevity/fuel mileage benefits.

I have switched to amsoil engine oil (engine soulds slightly different now--in a better way) and am doing Mobil 1 in my trans next week.

Later this spring I will do an Injen CAI and GM performance exhaust. That ECU tune sould nice...but I think it will void my warranty

At this time I am looking for inexpensive upgrades. I will have a SS/SC by the end of this year. A superchared 2.4 that is!

Not sure yet, but I am thinking that if GM Performance brings one out for the 2.4 like I have heard they are going to then I will go with that no matter what kind it is. A friend of mine that works for GM said that once they do come out with one it will not void the factory warranty.

becasue once you feel boost its addicting and you keep wanting more even if you dont think so right now and when it comes to easy upgrading thats where you need a turbo so all you have to do is press a few buttons and youve got extar hp on a s/c you are stuck at a certain boost by a pulley

Turbos are harder to maintain and wear out quicker. Superchargers do have more of a limit though, but lets not get into a Forced Induction fight...

GET BOTH!

When you say that turbos wear out quicker, what kind of timeframe are you talking about? 1 year, 5 years....?

turbos wearing out quicker is true and false at the same time, turbo can wear out quicker if you dont take care of them right, meaning : if you dont let the car idle for 30 seconds to 1 minute after driving it to let the turbo cool down and let the oil circulate so that it doesnt warp, get oil changes alot more frequently compared to n/a cars about every 3000 miles exactly, not using synthetic oil, and basically not maintaining your car correctly, if you take good care of your car a turbo can give you years and years of good service, the people who dont take care of their turbo cars are the ones who experience blown seals and bearings and such, the main reason the supercharger is known to be more reliable is due to it taking more abuse but only in stock form,

Thanks, that was a good explanation. Would I have to upgrade any other engine parts to install a turbo?

depends on how much boost you want to run, you should but you might be able to get away with it at low boost...i wouldnt do it though being safe and protective that costly turbo is always a must in my book, my dsm has a fully worked engine with the stock turbo on it...that blew after 155k miles, lol so its a sittin right now

turbos are about the same price and sometimes are less expensive. as far as bolting a nice turbo kit on a stock motor i am thinking it will be safe to about 7 -8 psi roughly AN ADDITIONAL 70-80 MORE HP WOULD BE SAFE ON THE STOCK 2.4 BUT when hahn racecraft comes out with our kit he will tell you for sure what to set the boost add for conservative safety. i am estimating his kit will be in the $3500 range

turbos themselves are cheap, but for a kit you pay a bit more, for example the turbo im looking to buy for my dsm cost 850$ and supports over 500whp (AGP RS60T), turbo kits run 3k-up

Yep Yep, good answer...first 5k miles of a car having boost change the oil every 1k as they might produce more metal filings in the engine. Or so I have heard from SOME mechanics.
