juat replaced intake muffler with abs pipe
After seeing lewiss's thread about how little hp he gained with jsut the gmpp intake and how much more he gained with the hoodscoop i started lookin for a way to open up the intake box, since I have the gmpp intake and of course want to get the most out of it. I ddint really want to cut a hole in my hood and add a scoop tho, so I looked at that intake muffler or wutever its called. what I decided to do is remove it and replace it with a couple pieces of abs pipe from the local hardware store. the inside diameter of the muffler was about 2.5 inches and the inside diameter of the abs pipe is about 3 inches. I ended up with the pieces arranged something like this and installed it something like this i know its kind of hard to tell whats goin on in that second pic but its a hard spot to be lookin at. all said and done it cost me about $13. i didnt take it for a before and after drive tho so i cant say if i gained anything or not, but if i did its not a whole lot. I did notice it sounds a little louder though. if ya got any questions dont be afraid to ask, i got more pics too if someone wants to see them.

This is for the 2.2 correct? I have a similar situation. When I took that muffler of the airbox setup I heard a significant difference in engine sound. So why again are you putting the tubing on there? Just to increase some air flow to the air box? And how does the tubing fit in there? Is it snug? I took that muffler part of the air box and left it off and seem to have no problems.

Yes, the 2.2 and 2.4 have the EXACT same intake system.
Honestly that dosen't look too bad but your not gaining much if anything....
Your going to hear this a lot, PAY TO PLAY, if you want power then buy an intake.

I know Im not gaining much, I did notice a little difference in the higher rpms. basically I didnt want to just take out the muffler box cuz then your sucking hot air from the engine bay. I just did this so I could still get the cold air behind the headlight with a little straighter path and 3" ID instead of 2.5" ID. It is quite snug in there, actually I had to bend the edge of the hole over with a hammer to get it to fit, if you mean the pipe fitting over the inlet to the air box then the abs pipe is a little bit bigger but not much, i just put some 2 way tape inside the pipe and that took up that little gap. oh yeah, and tehre is a little gusset there that has to have a notch cut in it for the pipe to slip in. Like I said though, its not big gains, but there is some, and it only cost $13
