LE5 Exhaust Gas Temperatures

Does anyone else have an EGT gauge on their LE5? What are your idle, crusing, moderate acceleration and WOT egts? I've had one on mine for a couple months now and I'm surprised at how high they are. Please also note if your thermocouple is in the manifold or downpipe

^dont seem too bad; figure the engine is made to run hot so the catalytic converter can 'light'...and thats around 1200 degrees

I wanted to run one, but never got around to it

Not sure on mine but I know my exhaust runs hot. Burned off half my damn bumper with the zzp exhaust. Wrapped it with heat wrap to see if it helps -_- lol

Seems pretty decent if you consider the fact that your turbo. Placement of the EGT and whether your catted or catless will make a big difference in what temp your seeing.

Best location on the EGT bung is about 1-2'' from the header flange on the hottest burning cylinder (told by Dezod after the fact, but whatever right before the turbo also works).

On the interceptor you can monitor your O2 sensors egt. Not too sure of its accuracy but cruising for me Is around 1600℉ apparently.

no way to know that without thermocouples in each runner

hottest cylinder will usually be the one farthest from where the coolant makes entry into the block/head from the radiator. You can typically verify it after a pull and then check each runner with a infrared thermometer.

Too much radiant heat back there for surface temperatures to be equal to internal gas temps. MIT's ethanol testing with the lnf stated cyl 3 ran hottest. It all depends on intake manifold and individual injector differences

well just for other guy's information: turbo LE5, e85 and 13psi on a s261et and probe in the manifold right before the turbo

idle=900-1000*F
part throttle=1150-1200*F
cruising @ 75=1350*F
WOT=1550*F

if anybody else starts monitoring feel free to post up

im at about 800-900f cruising on highway at low load rpm

WOT and repeated pulls on highway gets me to 1200-1300f, i usually calm when i notice it staying around 1200 ish. coolant 90-115c

I've had ENG PWR REDUCED (limp mode) trigger when i've pushed it repeatedly and temps escalate. Guessing heatsoak and sensors/wires getting hot etc.

You seem to be hotter than my car, but im on a conservative tune

7 psi, s252et

where is your thermocouple? light load/crusing/idle shouldn't vary much
