Low RPM engine noise
Real Quick I hope, I've noticed lately since I had my exhaust done and my intake done I'm hearing engine noise which is acceptable to me, but what I'm hearing is almost the sound of pinging or a light rattle like timing way too advanced in older cars if you've advanced the timing or is this just piston slap? also it's only at 2500 3000 or so rpm just annoying is anyone else noticing this. especially the ppl with tunes

Rattle as in could be exhaust? Sometimes you only hear exhausts rattle at lower RPMs, or at least in some cars i've seen. Once they get goin you dont hear it anymore. I'd say go under and look around.

I have Looked nothing loose only when the car is put under a load accelerating everything is tight its internal and doesn't matter if it warmed or cold most piston slap is at warm up. It's just that I hear so much about piston slap now a days. I've scaned the car and no tell tail readings

my 2.4
i just got 3000 miles on my 2.4 and i here a slight ticking like i think my dad says it may be the fuel injectors tapping or something i dont know. he says alot of new cars do this. only at idle you can here it well i can anyways. it sounds like the same thing with your car as mine i dont know though.

if it's a rattle, see exactly where it's coming from... when i put my downpipe on the extra vibration and size of the pipe caused it to rub agains the heat sheild, and made a nasty rattle.... i pryed it back with a screwdriver, problem solved...

not to sure yet
yeah im not to sure yet. its still new and im waiting to get her out which im ready too. stupid ass ohio weather. i dont think that anything is touching i looked at the whole underneath when i put my neons on. and i looked at how the exhaust is on and its all good. i measured the diameter of the stock exhaust i think it was like 2.75 and then 3 not sure. but the one the dealer has is 3 i believe. but no everything i believe is in working order. spet for my speakers and that tickin noise im gonna have them look at. i read something on a post here somewere i dont know how much it would be costing me to have the dealer put the gm exhuast on at the same time i get oil change and tire rotate. im thinkin itd be like 450 for exhaust and 50 or so for oil change and tires. then id say about 550 maybe. any ideas thanks

Anyways, aluminum valve cover + DOHC valvetrain = valvetrain noise. These engines make even more noise when they're cold. Now imagine cammin them. They'd sould like 1970's sewing machines.

I've done everything that I would do to a car troubleshooting the problem. I'm just use to working on V8 and large diesel engines, but the thing that sounds like it could be is the lash adjuster because it's just at a certain rpm and not unless the car is under a load also I may just go with trying the plugs just to see the The lash adjusters would be the best theory.. Thanks

the tapping type noise at idle is either your piston oil coolers spraying, or just piston slap @ idle.
my exhaust, is just a custom settup. straight pipe.
at idle, its got a rougher feel in the car, vibrates it, but once i get it going, the sound changes, the vibration goes away and its just music to my ears (apparently it vibrates windows).
