Magnaflow cat-back decibal???
Magnaflow cat-back decibal???
Driving around town today and i got a ticket for my exhaust being too loud. All i have is a magnaflow catback and k&n intake. Its not even loud at all, it really pisses me off. Any body know the decibal readings of the magnaflow catback?? I asked the cop what the decibal max was for new york state and he said under 35 mph at any throttle position it has to be under 76 decibals. Any help would be great, thanks guys...

how does that help the post at all?
the decibel reading can be different on car to car from things suck as how long its been on there, each intake, headers etc many different things. although you did say you only have k&n intake and exhaust it would be different on a 2.4 or a 2.0 balt with the same mods. best bet is to take it to a garage with a reader.

what do u mean im fine man, im not...i already got the ticket and have to go to court on the 21st of this month (may). I could put the stock one back on but id have to weld it back sence you have to cut the stocker at the axel.
Does anybody on here know the exact reading of a magnaflow catback?????

the magna flow is no louder, it just drops the tone a couple of octaves.... did the cop use a meter? and did he stick it up your pipe, because you are to read it about 2 feet away from the source of sound

you do not have to weld the stock catback together, i put mine on for about 6 months again between exhausts and you have to get a connector pipe from autozone or napa or whatever that is just slightly bigger than the exhaust pipe Outer Diameter, then two exhaust clamps. put the pipe connector over the two pieces of stock exhaust that you cut and a clamp on each end and bam good to go with stock catback.
No!! He didnt even use a decibal meter. He said that you cant modify the stock exhaust in any way. He said the only way I can get out of this is if i put the stock one back on or prove that the magnaflow is quiter than 76 decibals under any throttle position...The magnaflow honestly isnt loud, its deep and i wasent being an idiot, just crusing... Anyone in upstate New York know of a place where i can get the decibals tested???
Did he give you a fix-it ticket? You should have gotten another piece of paper along with the ticket so you can have it signed by a shop saying you had work done or whatever. I always take those to my buddy and have him sign off on it, just an FYI.
It also might help if you say where in upstate NY.
