magnaflow muffler
magnaflow muffler
if i have a stock 2.4 and add a round, magnaflow muffler (2.5 in/out) will i get a raspy tone or just a "deep tone"?
sorry about the newbish question, when it comes to mufflers i am clueless!

2.5" in/out should give ya' an alright sound...
A lot of the raspyness of fart cans comes from the fact that they are "glass packs" filled with fiberglass and have a 4+" outlet.
I got behind a 2.4 on the road the other day... he just had a canister bolted up... it didn't sound that bad actually. I rode behind him for about 10 miles with the radio off... just listening.
Sounded kinda like my full magnaflow system. Not completely... but if you're on a budget and aren't wanting the full horsewpoer gains from a real cat-back system... I say go for it.

I put a universal magnaflow on mine and it sounded really good for a 4 banger. Then I added my intake- now it is really loud. It still sounds pretty good and I do not think that you will find a muffler that has a lower sound than a magnaflow on a 4 cyl. Mine is oval style.
i got one from Mandrel Bent Exhaust Systems and it sounds great
deep tone
u will need a resonator though.. otherwise you can't rev too high orelse it becomes excessively loud
oh an it also gives you those little "backfire"ish sounds when the car revs down... lovely!
kinda like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4uWlD2LhDhA
but not as loud (I'm talking about the sound when u let go on the gas)

What you want is a Dynomax oval shaped turbo style muffler. If you can get an offset inlet offset outlet to fit it'll work the best. If not an offset inlet center outlet would be fine too. The muffler is basicly a glasspack internaly but the fact that it is shaped in either an "S" internaly for the offset/offset muffler or a fold "S" for the offset/center mufflers they work great! Had a pair on my 04 Cavi and no rasp, no fart can sound, only a nice deep mello note. Let me know if you need a part # and I'll link you all the stuff you'll need.
get magnaflow or borla... they sound great on our cars. i personally have borla. its deep and low until u get on it. If u have a catless/dp and header itll open it up more but still mainly deep and not the ricey rasp
